Technical Still getting stuck in gear 😭😭😭

Technical Still getting stuck in gear 😭😭😭

It's honestly so good to know I'm not going mad 😅 and hear that someone else has experienced the same stupidly strange intermittent problems as me.
I think a new master will be about £200 but that will take it to nearly a grand with the £780 already spent 😭 One good thing that's come out of today is I have found a really nice garage that I think I can trust moving forward.
The strangest thing about this fault is that no one seems to know what it is. It's making me hate my car as I just feel I can't trust it not to happen again.
I am female but tyring to detox from social media, but I really appreciate the suggestion and the hug 💖
no worries, i get the social media thing. i had to join fb for an irl group im in, for the group chat, and its a really rough place. im only part of the fiat girls group, and am rarely on it, but all the girls are lovely. its a safe space for women, ya know?

well, you might still be going mad...but not about the car! 😂😂😂

the garage took mine out 3 times, charged me twice, and said there was no issue. pffffft.

thats so much money, buuuut think of it like this. hopefully you wont need to replace those bits again, atleast not for ages, and they would go eventually, so uve saved ureself down the line. (me justifying buying gu pudding when its on offer)

im so happy you have found somewhere nice, honestly, tell em all about the clutch, and see what they think before you spend anymore with the mot place. big boo hiss to them from me.

and yeah, it was making me not wanna drive bubbles. i avoided anywhere that was more than a 10 min journey, which sucked. then it started happening pretty much right away in the heat, so i had no choice but to deal with it.

pls keep us posted as to what happens, and remember we are always here to help.

altho my help is literally limited to clutch master and slave cylinders lol. oh, and oil change! hang on, i also sanded down the bar thing at the back.

im basically a mechanic at this point.

Great to hear, we're all here to help others fix things or suggest possibilities, the 500 "can" be very cheap to keep going, this however requires the parts to be fitted by oneself whilst often simple can be daunting for a novice car mechanic, my next fix is new front brake pipe flexibles think they were £18 the pair, probably looking at ten times that at the garage to replace?

Don't let typo's be an issue we all do them, my phone is constantly typing tge instead of the, does my head in, I'm lucky my dad's 90 and still gives hints and guidance even though he's not physically able to now, he taught me well, problem solving is a constant when trying to fix the fiat, simple jobs that turn out not to be?

I am proud of all my children and the youngest daughter, repairing her washing machine, chiselling out a hole in a brick wall to fit and wire a twin 13amp plug socket in place of a single socket (after I showed her how to use a multimeter to confirm it wasn't live), odd car repairs, plus bringing up my youngest grand daughter etc. As well as a part time job.:)

Hi, I have just stumbled across this whilst desperately searching Google for answers. My 2014 Fiat 500 is doing exactly the same things you describe. I took mine to the garage and 1st they couldn't find anything , second time they replaced clutch and slave cylinder. £800 and 3 weeks later it's happened again
Hmm, if the symptoms are as you describe matching Sherbs's, then the procedure we on here agreed on was:
1. Bleed clutch hydraulics
2. Change slave
3. Change master
4. Change clutch

I still feel this is the best approach, eliminating each possible cause in order of difficulty & expense.

Trying to get a garage to diagnose an intermittent fault can get expensive quickly.

Master cylinder change is a quick and simple job and would be my next step in @Clam's position.

Not expensive with a garage, and if you want to try DIY we can help you :)

Thanks for taking the time to offer advise. I'm still wairing to get my car back. I think if it happens again I will do as you advise and get the master changed. Appreciate your help :)

Note master one of the more expensive parts
Oh, I've misunderstood as I thought that's the next step you suggested and that it wasn't expensive. I do appreciate the offer to help me fix it but the idea terrifies me. I have already paid for new clutch and slave and I'm sure the garage said they re bled the new clutch after I returned it, but not sure if that would be the same as clutch hydraulics bleed ? Thanks again :)

True, but,

Bleed
Slave
Clutch

Already been done and no progress.
Leaves the master as the last link in the chain.

Unless as Mike says bad release arm bearings weren't changed.

I think they jumped the gun with a new clutch :(

I agree, and see what's being said now, they have gone straight to the expensive option changing the clutch and slave cylinder. I hand on heart don't think there was anything wrong with the clutch but I trusted them that it would fix the problem:(

sadly alot of garages take advantage of ppl, especially women. When I was looking at how to videos, ppl were saying do the slave and master at the same time, so it's messed up they didn't. It'd be dead easy for them.

Well, you now have a garage to go to that seems really nice, and that's a good thing. We've all been there with poo garages. You never have to go to em again. so yay!

The master was under £150, I've forgotten exactly. I cant see a garage taking more than an hour to do it, more like half an hour. They have the proper gear and experience.

They wont however have my bbq spatula burger turning thing of DOOM! So i win.

I think that you will find that any garage or Dealership, big or small, that feels the need to rip people off are not worried if male or female.
When I had my only small business many of my regulars were female and often said to me how happy they were that I took the time to explain the job I was doing on their vehicle, the reason why and that often I could show them the worn parts and explain why they were needed, to their satisfaction.:)
In large Dealerships you often only get to speak to someone on reception who doesn't understand what was done and is only there to present the bill and take payment, so no opportunity to speak to the person who got their hands dirty doing the job.:(

I 100% promise you that garages, and other trades, take more advantage of women than men. I speak from personal, lived experience. I also see frequent content telling women to take a man with them when they go to a garage, or have someone come to the house for a plumbing quote or wotnot. That the tradesperson will treat the woman as if she werent there, and explain everything to the man. I have also experienced that first hand.

Its part of the reason there are womens only car groups.

Its why women only mechanics are booming, as other women know they wont be ripped off.

Sadly, the way you treated women isnt the norm.

Maybe as my dad dieds when I was eight, so my mum brought up me and my two younger sisters on her own and later I had four daughters and one son, so look at things from that perspective.:)
It can be worse, two of my daughtetrs worked in retail and some foreigners are just plain rude if not speaking to a male.:(
