Personalised plates advice please!

ok people I bought a car the other week, which came with a personalised number plate on it, which I have had valued and it is worth a considerable amount of money!


So the plan is to put the plate on retention and some time in the future get round to selling it.


I haven't send off the log book with my details yet because im curious if there is a way I can register the car in my name and at the same time take the plates off, put them on retention and put it on normal plates all in one go?


Because otherwise ive got to register it in my name, wait for the log book to return, and then once its back fill out the retention papers and send off the log book to be changed again!

Why not just keep it on the car till you're ready to sell it, if its on retention you have to pay an annual fee where as if you leave it on the car then you carry on till you're ready to sell, when you transfer the plate off once sold the dvla will automatically allocate a new plate to the car.

Putting it on retention is making it unnecessacerly complicated

its a old Corsa.. which I planned to work on for a while and sell and Ive been offered a fair bit for the plate!

Get the car (and plate) in your name first, it doesn't take long and saves on confusion.
