Have had a metal tapping or rattling noise over rough ground coming from the front end ever since I got her 6 months ago.

Just had the drop links and anti roll bar bushes replaced and it's made no difference. The garage said the next culprit might be top mounts, however I had the shocks and top mounts done by another garage when i first bought the car. I mentioned this to the garage diagnosing it now and they said maybe the mounts were installed incorrectly.

Has anyone else had a sound like this and managed to identify it. Once the car is at speed the rattling is pretty much constant as there is no such thing as a smooth road round these parts. Attached a video is as close as I can get to replicating it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have 6 struts sat in my workshop. All from 100s. All oem. None of them look like the one you have posted the photo of. I had an 07 from new. Didn't have those struts. I doubt the garage fitted the wrong struts. They fitted the part that all the manuals, books, references said they should because that's what's available for it. Even the Bilstein struts rated for the 100 match the"1.1" pattern. I've had those fitted to one as well, worked perfectly with the right droplinks. Currently have 595 struts on. They are not meant to be fitted either, but they work just fine, with the right droplinks.

You can post all the manuals, photos, quotes and blurb you want to. What's on the car is what's on the car. That's real. You googling isn't going to change that.

Let's say this. The droplinks are wrong for the struts that are fitted.

Already said

If you fit 100HP struts
you fit 100HP drop links

If you fit 1.1/1.2/1.3
You fit 1.1/1.2/1.3 drop links

Picture is from an 07 100HP no idea why yours left the same factory different

If it's a 22mm anti roll bar on the car, I would fit a matching 22mm bush not bung in a 20mm from 1.1/1.2, but then again I don't look after 10 of these

Even the Bilstein struts
Bilstein have never made the unique strut in B3 B4 or B6 there fitment is the 1.3D, obviously if you fit one of these you will have to change the drop link as it will no longer line up correctly

No need to unbolt the diff/driveshaft plate, they pop out easily with either a seal puller or simple crowbar

Quicker, easier, and no alignment issues, no need to reapply any sealant, I knock them back in to roughly the bottom of the chamfer

There is a bit of leeway you can knock them in a bit further if the driveshaft has worn down,
