General One bolt holding the wheel on!

Well i dropped my car off this morning to be MOT'd and an hour later got a call to say the car flew through it, with the exception of a small but deep cut in my rear left tyre.

So i took the car to the tyre place i always use and just as they were taking the wheel off the fella called me over and told me to have a close look at my wheel and see if i could spot anything wrong....

...Some ****ing prick had completely removed 2 of the 4 bolts and loosened a third! god knows where and when! i've been driving up and down the motorway with only one bolt holding the wheel on!

I don't think it was the test centre as when i asked if they needed my locking wheel nut adapter they said no as they won't need to take the wheen off anyway.

Attempted murder or a botched wheel theft?

bloody hell mate that well bad i would say some idiot trying to nik the wheels then realised last bolt was a locker. that made me worry now going checking all my wheel bolts just to be super safe. glad to hear past the mot tho

someone took 2 of my wheel nuts off on the front left wheel to nick it then obviously saw the locking nut, pr**k.

i changed to the abarth alloys and checked them after a week to check the bolts where tight and all was well, upon cleaning the car another week later i spotted them missing lucky they gave me the 4x that were removed for the locking nuts and lucky i saw it before well id rather not think about what would happen if it fell off lol

the brakes are tested on the rollers
an MOT isnt a substitute for servicing

Inside the car
Anti-lock braking system (if fitted) Warning lamp is checked for:
• Function.
• Sequence of operation. Footbrake
• Reserve travel on the footbrake so that it does not go down to the floor
• Pedal rubber not worn to excess
• Correct operation of the servo assistance system. ​

Reserve brake
This could be a handbrake or a footbrake.
Checked for reserve travel so that it does not reach the stops on application.
The mountings will be checked for security and /or corrosion. ​

Under bonnet checks
• Master cylinder and servo unit are checked for fluid leaks with the engine on and the brakes applied.
• Servo unit will be checked to ensure it is operating correctly.
• Visible metal or flexible brake pipes will be checked for corrosion, condition, breakages or leaks. ​

This happened on my dads car 2 weeks ago, in his case he was on the motorway and started to feel vibrations and suddenly the car lurched to the left and he lost control for an instance, luckily (I say "luckily") he was in the slow Lane of the m56 and pulled onto the hard shoulder. The rear tyres hadn't been screwed on correctly after the service it had had, and the left rear tyre was hanging off the hub, there was one nut left on. The AA man was called to check for any underlying damage and he was amazed how lucky my dad was to have avoided a crash.
We have used that garage for over 10years and have had the best customer service, sadly on this one occassiom they had let an inexperienced apprentice handle the wheels.

thats well bad he was verry lucky i always check mine after i go to a garage because i no from being in the trade myself, my boss always trys to rush me to get more cars done in a day rather than being safe and taking time

typical across the motor trade...ultimately you are responsible for your actions so tell him its will be finished when you are good and ready and not before!

Money before workmanship, safety and customer satisiaction...no wonder the trade has such a poor reputation!

Washing the car on a sunday is when i check for missing wheel nuts, and tighten if loose.
Could you not put 2 locking nuts in?. For extra security?. Just an idea.
