Hello everyone ,

This year on April got my grande punto 1.4 8v 2009 87000 miles on clock. First thing changed oil and filter. Used this oil TRIPLE QX 5W-40 PD Engine, probably I think not a good one. After 6500 miles I had to ad 2l of oil as when I checked it was very low the level. Yesterday I was checking the level and it's getting low from the max level after 1000 miles done from the day I added 2l. On the dipstick I was smelling like petrol and the oil looks like it's diluted. The strange thing it's that if petrol is going on to the oil motor the oil level shouldn't go up? The car starts and runs fine no smoke and leaks. I just ordered 4l of Selenia K pure energy 5W-40,new filter and LIQUI MOLY Pro-Line Engine flush I will flush the engine before changing the oil. Another thing when I put on the heat I smell petrol inside the car. Any advice much appreciated 🙏

Thanks :)

As you realise, obviously not good, the diluted oil will not protect the bearings etc. inside the engine and possibly the diluted oil /petrol can be breathed back into the engine with potential fire risk etc.
Any error messages read?
I had something similar on a customers Nissan Micra to the point it flooded the spark plugs and killed the engine, but if you started from cold and just drove off you noticed nothing, on that car it was a known Nissan issue related to the temperature sensor and a piece of wiring loom.
I would advise the Error codes are read with a diagnostic tool , it is possible someone on Forum has come across this on your model before and can suggest a solution.
On diesel 1.3 MJ Fiat Puntos leaking injector caused similar problems of engine oil dilution etc.

Hello everyone ,

Congrats, the car is fine overall, but fairly high maintenance.

That's the right oil.

After 6500 miles I had to ad 2l of oil as when I checked it was very low the level. Yesterday I was checking the level and it's getting low from the max level after 1000 miles done from the day I added 2l.

There is a problem here. Keep topping the oil up while you find out whats happening.

Its possible too much fuel is getting into the cylinders and some is getting into the oil. Not easy to diagnose i'm afraid.

Another thing when I put on the heat I smell petrol inside the car. Any advice much appreciated 🙏
Most likely a breather hose problem, and not related to the oil usage.

The only thing I noticed is when I have driven the car for some time and the temperature is 90,when I park the car and keep it on its like trembling ,like it loses power but the RPM it's stable. I have ordered a diagnostic tool I will have a check.

What should I do after I change the oil and filter with the new one? If the problem persist I should go to a garage?

The smell of petrol coming through the heater, have you ran the engine with the bonnet open, is there visible fumes?
I would be careful and only use car a little until you fix the problem.

If you want to post regularly here i'm sure you'll get lots of help, but it could take some time. The quicker and more expensive option would be to take it to a garage.

As noted above you want to drive the car a minimal amount while you work out what to do.

I haven't..i will check it but if I see fumes what does it mean?

Ok thank you very much for your support :)

They may be escaping from the breather as oily/petrol fumes , potentially highly inflammable especially when engine hot!!!

I will check it :)...the only thing it's not clear for me it's if there is petrol going to the oil I think it comes from a leaking injector right? But if the petrol is mixing with oil how it's possible the oil level is not going up..I had this problem years ago with a diesel Audi where the diesel was mixing with oil and the oil level was going up

That's why I think it is burning it via the breather into the inlet manifold.

"Injector leak" means internal leak (it's dripping fuel into cylinders -> oil) not external (this one can be easily spotted and you could smell it).
Most common cause of oil consumption is stuck piston rings. Oil change + flush can help, but the best way is to try unlock the rings by pouring some of that flush into cylinders via sparkplug holes (then suck it back after 1 hour at least - ideally whole night).
Then valve stem seals.

Check emissions (independently from "MOT"), take a results (print).

Definitely u will try to put some of the flush into the cylinder..what can I use to suck it back?
