An elderly rollerblader has refused to give up skating after being found guilty of endangering the public by whizzing through a busy town.

Geoff Dornan, 71, of Normanhurst, Ormskirk, was accused by Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council of two counts of breaking a council bylaw by skating in Southport's Chapel Street.

Just heard this on the news, and its already annoyed me. If it was a teenager skating around, doing the same thing as him, everyone would say 'those damn kids' etc.

What do you think?

What a pi$$ take! The council wouldn't dare appraoch kids if they were doing it cause they kids wouldn't care about it... I think they're just trying to scare the old dude. Shouldn't the council be using their resources for things that actually matter?!

Poor bloke... I hope he sticks to his skating and puts 2 fingers up to the Council (y)

I've been prosecuted for skateboarding against bye laws, albeit not in the UK... dunno if the UK authorities would be a softer touch than the Slovaks but probably!

down the road from me, load of ********, hes being used as an example to try n scare the kids. The kids round here dont give a **** and ignore the police and authorities, best way lol. Arent doing anything wrong tbh.

Skate along, see the police, stop, walk past, carry on is the routine lol. Theyve tried to make most of Southport a no Skate/Bike zone

reminds me of the time 2 community wardens tried to stop me riding my bike...........

I was on a F##king bridal way

lets just say that after a few words i was followed at (high speed shouting at me to stop  rolf ) they had bike's too ;) but their training can't have covered how to descend a 20 foot flight of steps plus doubt the £100 bikes would have survived them anyway (which were clear of pedestrians before anyone pipes up i'd usually use the assess ramp which is for the horses )......
