Hi All,

Just got a weird problem.

I have my PC configured in dual boot (XP/Windows 7) and as of last week, winsows 7 is no longer establishing an internet connection, whereas XP is fine.

I cannot access the router via IP either (windows 7).

Routers have been restarted, wireless connection is fine.

Microsoft network diagnosis picks up nothing, and unfortunately, i've not had many problems with networks so fault finding here is a bit rusty.

Only problems I have had is since using the BT Homehub as part of my fibre package, otherwise, I prefer netgear anyday.

My setup (s*** diagram)

Any ideas?

What is the router doing, also what make and model is it?

I am confused... the home hub is a router and I'd expect you to plug your Pc's / laptops etc into that

Confused why you need a modem and a homehub, is the home hub not a modem/router in one box anyway!

You have an IP address and should have connectivity on the windows 7 machine, have you added or changed anything recently? Have you done the simple things like ping request to the home hub/router and then a ping request to google etc

My understanding is Infinity users need the extra modem to bridge the homehub to the infinity network.

Try restore as an update may have changed it, are you using Microsoft Security Essentials? My Windows does this all the time with the Virgin super dupa pile of crap they gave me, they call it superhub, let me tell you it aint no super nothing. It wont go through a brick wall 10 feet away

Is it like this?

Bang on mate!

Good suggestion but I have all updates to alert me and only choose the ones I need. However, knowing microsoft, something will have changed without my say so. Going to try Chris's suggestion below and if not, resotre is needed.

And to OP. Try "ipconfig /release & ipconfig /renew" once complete "ipconfig /flushdns"

If complete and still no go can you type "route print" and paste the output.

cheers chris, will try now.

Restore is pretty straight forward and doesnt change many things on your system, but then I dont put much on mine at home. Chris is way above my understanding he might as well be speaking spanish lol

right mate, no success. But heres 'route print'.

Reminds me of doing CCNA last year, can hardly remember it though

I only use new retore points Chris, but your right I thought we all restored all the time. But my wife touches my PC and it goes wrong a lot. Luckily we have an 8 year old to fix it for her as she doesn't have a scooby

If it where me next I'd try:-

1.) Try your other network interface. I notice you have two listed.

2.) Can you ping anything? LAN / WAN. Can you also try nslookup and try and resolve google.co.uk

3.) Try setting a static IP on the LAN of:-

IP: 192.168.1.210
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
GW: 192.168.1.254

Primary DNS: 192.168.1.254 (your router should use DNS pass-through to ISP DNS Servers)
Secondary DNS: 8.8.8.8 (Google's Primary Public DNS Server)

Go into advanced TCP/IP V4 properties and set the gateway metric to 10 as shown in attachment.

If that lot doesn't work it's time to reset the TCP/IP Stack:-

Microsoft KB299357 said:
The reset command is available in the IP context of the NetShell utility. Follow these steps to use the reset command to reset TCP/IP manually:

1.) To open a command prompt, click Start and then type CMD in the Search programs and files.

2.) Right-click CMD.exe icon in Programs and choose Run as administrator.
3.) When the User Account Control box pop up, click Yes.
4.) At the command prompt, copy and paste (or type) the following command and then press ENTER:

netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

Note If you do not want to specify a directory path for the log file, use the following command:

netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt

Reboot the computer.
