Cinquecento My Metallic Blue 1998 Cinquecento 1.1 Sporting.

Introduction

Hi well, i only joined the forum just a few day ago because i purchased this little 1998 cinqu 1.1 sporting as my little project just purely as a runaround:Djust so i do not have to drive my 2.0 16v Espace about,

I am not quite sure what iam going to be doing to it its far from being a perfict cinqu and with lots of tlc i hope in time it will be,

Well it has a years ticket on it and i have it garaged and hope to get stuck in about it in the next few weeks with a good check over mechanically then a clean top to bottom and then one of my first jobs after this is to replace the Rocker cover Gasket as it running a little at the front and then and only then will i start to sex it up a little:eek:

Cheers Scuderia

p.s Anyone now if this Blue Metallic paint colour has a name???
I should have a spare top rad hose, only thing it has been chopped and a take off for temp gauge in there

PM left:),Sorry for late reply been way to busy:rolleyes:,

Like i said in my PM iam thinking about using Vipers Flexi hose like below,

http://www.viperperformance.co.uk/productsearch.php?xscId=9853

If you look at the Cento hose set up its not all one pipe,if you look closely its all connected together by plastic moulded couplings, some step up and some step down some are even 4 branch ,so i can't see why they can't be used again as there very strong,so all you need to do is remove the old stock clips and hoses and replace them using Vipers flexi hose and use new hose clips to clamp them in postion, sure will work out cheaper doing that way than having to get a kit made up;),

I'll let you know how i get on later in August,

Cheers Scuderia

Hi All,

Well thats the cat joint sealed and fume free:),and the car is now taxed for another 6 Months.....£77 you having a bloody laugh:D,probely not use all 6 Months this year though:eek:, as iam late getting it taxed ,so i'll probely surrender the tax at the end of August after Hopetoun House Italian Car & Bike Show or around September?,

Since its now taxed insured and MOT'ed i was able to get it out there and test if this secondary pump and fuel swirl pot was doing it job?.......which iam pleased to say,so far so good:),

Hi All,

Well i bit the bullet yesterday and bought all i needed to change my complete cooling system hoses from stock rubber to silicone:D.........yeah yeah i know i said August:eek:, but iam keen to get the job done and finished rather than wait until the summer was over,in the end i bought ASH autosiliconehoses? i think:eek:,but what i know for sure is its a good quality hose as there were sample hoses there for me to see at my local Eng Supplier and test, which i was happy enough to then place an order on,

All going well i should have bought enough straight hoses, 90 degree bends & alloy connectors and new mild steel clips to do the job,as well as some new Antifreeze to finish the job off with,

The new parts should be ready to pick up on Monday Morning all going well?, so i'll update the thread as always and keep you in the loop,

I think i have already said on recent posts that iam attending a Meet on Sunday 1st July at Stirling with Fiat Scotland,if anyone is close enough and would like to travel up and attend this meet your more than welcome to do so:),

Cheers Scuderia

well i think i'm off to MITCAR and TRAX this year, assuming i have a car to use on both them days lol

Nice One....Iam afraid I'll not be at either,i have a track day in August with the AROC and I'll also be at Hopetoun House the same Month for The Scottish Italian Car & Bike Show as always as its good day out, but other than that Ive nothing else penciled in:eek:,i will try and get the Cento out on a Hot Hatch Day at Knockhill between now and then but as always it will come down to available cash:D,

Cheers Don

Hi All,

Well the Polyester Reinforced Silicone Hoses i ordered from ASH (Auto silicone hoses) arrived this morning......wrong colour though:rolleyes:,i ordered Red and i got Blue:D,

Oh by the way Ive ordered far to much:eek:...Doh,never mind Ive got spares:cool:,

Before i went to the cash desk this morning i had picked up a few other parts worth over £20 and after me saying that the Blue would be OK they gave me the other parts i had in my hand for free:),to be honest with the strut brace being Red and the engine block being Red it would have been to much so iam better off with the Blue:),

You just need to ask and I'll help where i can:),its simples really:),

Now rather than buy lots of alloy connectors i opted to use what joints the old stock rubber hoses were held together with as the plastic molded connectors are good enough in my eyes,

Stock Coolant Hoses

Old Rubber Hoses Removed

In the pic above you will see a 4 branch section & a 3 branch section.....the Cento's is actually a 3 t-piece section but i opted to use the 90 degree 3 branch that i took off a mpi Seicento, and Ive also used the top radiator bleed valve,i never used the 2 straight sections that used to be used on the bulkhead matrix hoses as there is no need to unless you wish to,

So i made up the section that joins the top radiator outlet to the thermostat using 2 x 32mm ID 90 degree bends and an alloy connector to join them, you do need to take some length off the 90 degree bends to get a good fit like below

Then using the 4 branch plastic molded stock section and a 90 degree 32mm ID bend cut down to size and a short 32mm ID straight section cut to size i made this up below to run from the lower radiator inlet to the steel water pump pipe,

Then using a 16mm ID 1 Metre section i joined up the header tank down to the 4 branch section just like the stock system used to be below,

Then using another 1 Metre of 16mm ID hose i run that section from the last remaining branch up to the top heater matrix fitting,i also cut my breed valve in as it once was, although its 3 inches lower than it once was but that's OK as i had no problems breeding the system afterwards,

Sorry i have no pics of the next bit but its no big deal,

Then using another 16mm ID hose from the outlet of the rear of the inlet manifold up to the bottom fitting on the heater matrix fitting the 3 branch section in between the inlet manifold and the bottom matrix fitting and then run an 8mm ID hose from the top of the header tank to the 8mm fitting on the 3 branch plastic section that's all the hoses fitted,

But on your car this 8mm hose that runs from the header tank to the 8mm fitting on the 3 branch plastic section will pass through the spi unit at the front exiting the rear, but my (SPI UNIT IS NOT WATER COOLED,so i didn't have to do this but you will,

In the end i had to take the long way round from the 8mm fitting on the top of the header tank to the 8mm fitting on the 3 branch plastic section down behind the spi unit but you might be able to do it as it was from stock?, but i was having trouble getting the 16mm hoses to go that direction without kinking?,but iam happy with the end result:),

Ive tested it for leaks and iam pleased to say its all leak free but i do have few loose ends to finish off over the next few days but other then that iam well pleased with it,

I have yet to fit another 8mm bleed valve and hose to the 8mm fitting on the top of the radiator but thats about it?,

I'll get some better pic's up over the next few days?,but times against me at the minute as iam busy with work,

All the best Scuderia

Oops..... i would say you could do it for around £90 all in from ASH ?,THINKING ABOUT IT?,You could probely do it cheaper than £90?????, as they do sell on ebay,or you could also buy direct, remembering i bought mine through independant supplier so there was a middle man involved,

Hope this helps Don

That's a lot more resonable than I expected. The genuine standard items are very similar in price!

Nice work, no doubt this will be helpful to a lot of people. Maybe they can copy these pages and put them in the guides. :)

I was even surprised at what i payed to be honest and i didn't think when i placed the order i would have had enough:eek::D,

Iam not a guide type of guy,be there done that........does me head in lol........ but Ive got the the rest of the day off:cool:, so what i'll do is put one together later this evening as i took more photo's today and i'll take more later this afternoon as iam just finishing off a few loose ends then i can get the little beasty back down onto its paws where it belongs,

Cheers Don

Yeah iam going to try and sort something out between now and later this evening all going well, iam not going to go into to much depth but it sure will be enough info to help others if they wish to take up my advice, then if the Admin or Mods wish to sticky the thread they can do so:),

All the best Don

Right whats next
biggrin.gif
,

Well i can say for sure nothing will be done to this car between now and October for sure then and only then will i work on it if its a mild enough winter?, but if not it will be next March before i take my next job on although the winter will not stop me from buying in the parts that i need, so that gives me some time to mule over what i would like to still do to this car,

Like i said before its knowing when to stop and draw a line under it
rolleyes.gif
,but i can't seem to do right now as i still have things on my wish list
banghead.gif
,

There are a few scratches and one dent that i would like to smart repair but that can wait until late Sept-Oct time as its no big job,

An aftermarket ecu is very high on my list but to be honest its not job i would like to do although iam sure i could apart from map it,i think what I'll do is get my local rolling road to price me up one of there ecu units for supply mapping and fitting and take from there but i will have to save for this big time as i wouldn't have that type of cash to spend at the minute,

Another thing that's high on the wish list is a set of White Compomotive wheels and new tyres but again were talking another big price tag so again i would need to save for them,

I do have more things on my wish list but you'll just have to wait to see what i do next:devil:,it probely will not be any of the above as iam sure it will take me to next Spring to save that type of cash,

I'll post some pic's up at the weekend of the Cento and others as iam away to the Stirling Meet with FScotland on Sunday 1st July,

Cheers Don

Oh i forgot to mention that i seen a lowered pic of an s or sx Cento today with the plastic bumpers.......its probely just me but i think that the unpainted bumpers look the nuts:D....they seem to break the car up a little so i might just might buy myself a second hand set or even a new set from eBay and dress them up using my orange trim, like i said its probely just me but i do like the look compared to my imola blue bumpers that's for sure,I'll still keep my imola blue bumpers....its worth a try eh,

Cheers Don
