Cinquecento My Metallic Blue 1998 Cinquecento 1.1 Sporting.

Introduction

Hi well, i only joined the forum just a few day ago because i purchased this little 1998 cinqu 1.1 sporting as my little project just purely as a runaround:Djust so i do not have to drive my 2.0 16v Espace about,

I am not quite sure what iam going to be doing to it its far from being a perfict cinqu and with lots of tlc i hope in time it will be,

Well it has a years ticket on it and i have it garaged and hope to get stuck in about it in the next few weeks with a good check over mechanically then a clean top to bottom and then one of my first jobs after this is to replace the Rocker cover Gasket as it running a little at the front and then and only then will i start to sex it up a little:eek:

Cheers Scuderia

p.s Anyone now if this Blue Metallic paint colour has a name???
Hi Chaps,

Yeah i would say the Supersprint is a 304 stainless steel?,i would say at this point its only surface rust but it is quite deep!.....its no way tinny yet where it branches from 2-1 but like i said the rest of it is still very good,I'll probely just get the Company that made my stainless sections for me to replace the 2-1 sections at some point....but i don't have the cash just at the minute:D......its a little scarce:rolleyes:, Iam hoping it should be OK for another year or two yet though?:)...i hope,

No updates as yet:p but iam working on it:D,

Hi All,

Well after finding a little time over the weekend i managed to get the secondary Facet low pressure fuel pump and alloy fuel swirl pot fitted to work in conjunction with the Welbro low pressure turbo pump and alloy fuel tank in the attempt to eliminate this fuel starvation problem its suffering from on hard cornering & braking,

Like i said Ive only had time to static test it but after manually priming the fuel swirl pot for the first time then starting the car as normal iam pleased to say all seems to be well as its idling and running as it should be:),

I can't road or track test it yet as the car isn't booked in for MOT for another Fortnight, but as soon as i get the chance i will, can't see there being problem though, although i have been here before:rolleyes:,

Love it or Hate it:D,i love it......very patriotic me:p,but after removing my bonnet lining many many moons ago and even after it was cleaned under there i never did like the look of it as it always look minging:p

So after some sanding priming keying and painting this happened:D

Whats next?,well apart from MOT in 2 weeks time......who knows???????;),

Cheers Scuderia

It must be almost a pleasure taking a car like this for an MOT. (y)

Yeah its great:rolleyes:.......i know what you mean though:),i didn't have a problem last time round....... although i did have to have it retested because it failed on its emissions:rolleyes:,new ngk lambda sorted that out though, should fly though...fingers crossed,

I take it that's your broom Yellow Cento?if so.......Superb Looking:cool:,

Did you have any problems removing the heating system?,i ask as iam keen to remove mine to deduce weight:devil:,but i have been out on track in wet conditions and even with the heater vents operating it did suffer with bad visibility due to condensation so i would imagine its a nightmare without a fan system?,can you give any advice please?,

It WAS my cento. :( Lost my parking space where i work/live, so would mean it had to be kept in a public car park. It would only get vandalised so decided to break it up. Got to 126BHP reliably, so fairly happy with how it was running. Will have another one day.

I had no problems with the heater box. Its not needed for MOT at all. Went through 2 MOT's without any questions. It is a requirement for an SVA to have a demisting device, but that is all. I never used to drive my car in the rain (it was only a weekend toy really) so cant comment on the misting, but never had a problem in any other weather. I did buy a small hand held heater that could be mounted to the dashboard, but never needed it. It runs from a cigar socket and could be mounted in the dash if needed. If any use ill find a picture.

My only problem with MOT was the emissions too, but was a 10 second job with megasquirt luckily. :p The other problem, not trusting an MOT station with your pride and joy. haha

That's a shame......Very Nice Car Though:cool:,

Not to bothered about MOT, there is always ways means to get a car through MOT,that said i think I'll keep in place, your only talking about 3kg? if that?anyways so no real big saving on weight lose, just have to lay off the 1/2 Pounder & Chips beforehand.....much prefer to see where Iam going when its wet and not sitting in the gravel traps:D,

Hi All,

Anyone that knows this car will now i fitted a roof scoop.... vent.... what ever you want to call it? last year, but i never did cut the roof to let the air in, i only made and fitted the vent itself,so what ive done for now is drill 10x10mm holes, then i fitted rubber wiring grommets using some sealer then with the vent lid fitted i water tested it......which iam pleased to say was a success,

Will it work i hear you say?,

Well after i fitted the vent itself last year i did have the car out on the open road and because there was already a hole on the roof where the aerial used to be i couldn't believe just how much air traveled in, so iam sure it'll work, anyone that has had there car out on the track doing 10+ laps......will know it gets bloody warm in there so any air to help keep us cool is a good thing,

I also took a trip down to my local breakers yard and removed a double air vent off an MG Convertible and with a little tiger seal it now looks like this,i can also close or open the vent when needed which is a plus point,

Moving on

So i ordered some more parts:D,as you do....nothing special though,

Two new orange TRS towing straps..........i hope thats not a sign of things to come:rolleyes:...... lmfao, why?because i like them:)...simples,

To get the front strap to fit i just had to make a few slight adjustments to the old towing eye bracket,

Old Towing Bracket cut drilled primed and painted

New Strap Fitted

Tow_Straps_013.jpg

To get the rear strap to fit was easy, all i needed to do was drill a hole to accommodate the bolt that holds the strap in place on the rear bumper brackets where the existing towing eye is fitted.....that said i was lucky as my rear bumper brackets are new, but if it had been my old brackets that wouldn't have been possible as they were rotten to the core with rust,

Now i did notice that my throttle cable was a little worse for wear,

So i bought this

Its a universal stainless steel braided throttle cable with a Teflon core.......and with a few slight adjustments here you have it fitted and in working order,

I also ordered myself a oil catch tank:eek:,sorry Brooky...or was that Blu?,can't remember?, one of you pair offered me the chance to buy one and i declined(n),but after some thought i did just that,i ordered myself one....lmfao,but it seems to has got lost in the post:rolleyes:, so the seller has sent me another, should be here later this week all going well?,

Thats it for now folks,

All the best Scuderia

Hi :),

Well i little update, nothing to big just an Oil Catch Tank that was delivered on Monday....Cool,

Now it was the cheapest i could find so its not the best but it'll do the job!,now the pipe what comes with this kit is naf so i just opted to use what was already fitted on my Focus induction kit, that said thats not the best either but it'll do for now as the coolant pipes and other pipework are on my list of things to do?,when?,iam not sure,

I was lucky when it was time to fit the catch tank as this bracket below had never been removed from my car and wasen't in use anymore, so with a couple of new holes drilled into it then given a lick of paint it looked like this,

I also had to add an extra 45 degree bent to the bracket that came with this kit but other than that........the jobs good un:)

Finished & Fitted

Whats next?????????????,sorry i don't have a bloody clue!,i need a break from it for while, so i'll have a think about it between now and its MOT in 2 weeks time,

Hi All,

Well at long last i got the little devil back down onto its paws today:cool:,and did a static test with it hooked up to the laptop using the Startrek Program and all seems well,i also filled it up with fuel so thats it more or less ready for its MOT on Friday 15th June:),

I will have to give the brakes another bleed as the pedal could be doing with being a little harder,

I will also have to pop down to my local breakers yard as it seems the front washer motor dosen't want to play ball:rolleyes:,i would use the rear motor as ive done away with the rear wiper and motor but thats not playing ball either:bang:,there is power at the motor when the stalk is pulled so they must be seized?,iam not sure if there serviceable or not?are they?,apart from that its all go,

It was supposed to be on MOT today but i cancelled it which iam a little hacked off about as it's the Scottish Italian Car Show this weekend and i would have liked to have been there with it.....but there is always next year:),

Cheers Don

fluffy do them like 16 quid for a brand new one, so is worth getting a new one ... they do tend to go :(

Both my cinq needed new pumps!!!

Hi Ming....Cheers:),

I just popped down to local breakers this morning and took one off down there which ive already fitted.....Happy Days, skint though... as it cost me all of £2:D,not sure how long it'll last though:rolleyes:,i did give it a good clean and a coat of paint though before fitting it,

I also got the brakes done:cool:,bleed and topped up with dot 4.....jobs a good un.....nice hard pedal again:),

Although i was cursing for about 3 hrs this afternoon as the car was running very strangly with a bad smell about the engine bay:confused:,for the life of me i couldn't work out what it was:confused:,then after 3 hrs of head scratching and just by chance i noticed that the rubber pipe on the end of the mass air flow sensor had a large split in it:rolleyes:,fitted a new rubber pipe and since the smells away and its now idling and running fine again,

I will have to pop down to my breakers again though:rolleyes:, as i lifted up the drivers wiper arm the bloody spring broke:bang:,

Cheers Don

Hi All,

Not been up to much to be honest as its now just a waiting game for its MOT next week:),i did pop down to my local breakers yesterday for 2 used wiper arms which are now fitted,

There was another Fiat in there that took my interest with a nice little lump in it:D,it was a Mk I Punto gp3?,i think its called?,but its no good for the Cento, that thought was just a moment of madness:D....apart from that iam still keen to keep this Cento as an 1108cc,

Over & Out

From that alone, I can see you are getting tempted by a bigger engine. It is only just a matter of time :).

Ming

Theres loads more to do to that 1.1 block if you want more power.

Obviously it's easier to wack a 1242 in but I like the way your sticking with the original block

I'll be throwing you a pm about fueling soon

:D,I can tell right now right now mate that the 1108cc Fire in this Cento will not be going anywhere!.......End Off,I'll only be improving on it.....:), Read On Mate;)

if you really want to keep the 1108 then a Punto75 head and inlet etc would be a good move.. Easy peasy mpi conversion..

(y)

(y)...Not a problem,you just have to ask:),

agreed.. To many people just whack a different engine in rather than do actual proper tuning.

:D,After speaking with yourself yesterday on facebook after seeing this gp3 lump and agreeing its not the best option for a Cento i have to agree:(,

Like Mings is saying iam getting very....lets say itchy:D, and have been for some time thinking about buying another Cento........i only really want the shell, then iam going to start from there and custom build and strengthen it and take it from there....maybe even a mid-engine rwd job:eek:....dreaming?,i could do it!, i know i can, but its time & money....we'll see eh:),

ahh, guess you can always bore the 1108 block out :p

I always thought it couldn't be bored out as there is enough clearance between the bores?,

I kind of know whats possible and whats not and this forum is full of good links and advice so i can't go wrong, but like any project only time will tell......but it looks very like iam going to be moving on to another after Ive done a little more to this one, but like i said the 1108cc will be staying.......,

Cheers Don
