Cinquecento My Metallic Blue 1998 Cinquecento 1.1 Sporting.

Introduction

Hi well, i only joined the forum just a few day ago because i purchased this little 1998 cinqu 1.1 sporting as my little project just purely as a runaround:Djust so i do not have to drive my 2.0 16v Espace about,

I am not quite sure what iam going to be doing to it its far from being a perfict cinqu and with lots of tlc i hope in time it will be,

Well it has a years ticket on it and i have it garaged and hope to get stuck in about it in the next few weeks with a good check over mechanically then a clean top to bottom and then one of my first jobs after this is to replace the Rocker cover Gasket as it running a little at the front and then and only then will i start to sex it up a little:eek:

Cheers Scuderia

p.s Anyone now if this Blue Metallic paint colour has a name???
Pretty sure they can be overbored a little -- I think the bore centres on the 1242 are the same.

Unfortunately, the gudgeon pins on the 1242s are a different size, so you can't just use 1242 pistons.

1108 should make a happier high revving lump than the 1242 (cause the bore to stroke ratio is closer to being sensible). Mind you, compare that to the bore stroke ratio on a Panigale, and you know that FIAT havn't exactly got high revs on their agenda!

The trofeo's were 1146cc wernt they?

Sorry guys i don't know what the Trofeo's were:eek:,like i said iam more than happy with my 1108cc:),what i do to the next if there's a next iam not sure:D?,

Edit: just had a look about and i can't seem to find any info on there bore size,

Hi Chaps,

Well it seems there was mix of Trofeo's out there but what splits them up is the Rally Class thats entred, the 8v 1108cc engine that was used had to race in Group N....known as production Class, then there's the Group A Modified Class, and this is were i believe the 8v 1108cc engine was bored out from 1108cc to 1146cc to be able to compete in Group A Modified Class knocking out 157bhp:eek:...Nice,iam sure there is more to it but in a nut shell thats working out to be 3 times its standard bhp:D,

Cheers Don

That's the things guys, that's what i like about most 8v....most are gutsy wee buggers:D,

Any......this is all food for thought for me,as i said Ive started breaking down Mings old 1108cc as we speak.... so watch this space,

Update,

I did try and bring next weeks MOT date forward but i can't seem to get a date until then,i probely could go elsewhere but Iam keen to use the garage i have always used.....25+ years...showing my age:eek:,

Cheers Don

Where did you get that throttlecable from by the way?

I need to make a new one up for my conversion as my DIY one is causing some slight stick :bang:.

Thanks

X

Hi Todger,

I bought it off a seller on eBay,its was listed as a.... 2m universal throttle cable for £ below ,

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2M-BRAIDED-UNI-THROTTLE-KIT-CAR-RACE-RALLY-AUTOGRASS-/350566161648?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item519f5f1cf0

But what i did was make the seller an offer at £30 and i think he came back at £33,its a little over the odds for a throttle cable but it is a good piece of kit!, you do have to make a few slight modifications to get it to fit propely,

Any questions just ask:),

Edit:

When fitting this kit in the pic below you will see the threaded section on one end of the cable itself.........You need to cut that off as theres no need for it,

Then you need to cut the breaded section to length to suit your aplication,

Then you need to cut 5-10mm of the outer plastic covering that protects the braided section so you can then push the breaded section into the end sections that are provided below and are fitted,

You will see at the pedel end i have fitted a washer to the end section that sites against the bulk head at the engine side, this is so it does not get pulled through the rubber grommet on the bulk head, you will either need to buy a washer to fit or either drill one out to fit like i did,

You will also see on the pic below there is rubber stopper thats apart of the old cable set up that sits between the padel arm and the inner bulk head to stop the padel slapping the bulk head on its return, you will need to made the hole in that rubber stopper larger to allow the new cable to pass through freely as the new cable is 2mm thicker than stock cable,IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS THE PEDAL DOES NOT RETURN TO THE CLOSED POSTION!,

Also in the pic above you will see a small metal section that has hole drilled through it, that belongs to the old cable but i decided to use it, but like the rubber piece beside it you do have to drill it out to get the new cable to pass through it like below,

Make sure when your fitting the kit you do not over tighten the cable as the throttle postion sensor will throw a wobbler:D,what i did was give the cable at the throttle body end about 5mm of slack IF YOU GET MY DRIFT?....jobs a good un:),

I think ive covered it all?,you just have to ask,

Cheers Don

Hi All,

Just a quick update to say the little Cento was up on its annual MOT yesterday, and iam pleased to say it passed without any advisorys:cool:,well chuffed:D,

Although i do have a strange smell coming from the back of the engine bay:confused:,the best way to disscibe it is its a rubbery plasticy smell:confused:,the car is running and idling well and all the coils seems to be working? as its sparking on all 4 pots, there dosen't seem to be any leekage from the inlet manifold or spi unit so iam not sure what it is:confused:,it could be one of the new pollycarb bushes on the stainless exhaust? or maybe one of the cat joints is venting a little.......not to worry though as both are easy fixes,

On the way to yesterdays test i took the car the long way round:devil:, and it seems that the swirl pot and secondary low pressure pump is doing its job as its cured the fuel starvation problem it was suffering from on hard breaking and cornering:cool:, i guess we'll know for sure when i get it out on the track:devil:,but iam sure it'll be just fine:),

Cheers Scuderia

Ive managed to find out what that smell was,

Its the cat joint between the manifold and cat,its venting a little, not by much but enough to stink the car oot:p,the cat is away to be removed anyroads:devil:, and be replaced with the straight stainless section that i had made up for it, so the cat can be removed and replaced for MOT,can't be bothered to jack it up again just at the minute:eek:,had enough of working on it:),

Cheers Scuderia

Never thought I'd hear you say that about this car :p

:D,It does get under me skin at times if iam honest,i just seem to have spent to much time on it recently so iam a little scundered with it:rolleyes:......but i still loveeeeeeee it!,

Like i said weeks ago....whats next?,well its the coolant pipes thats are next,

Iam going to replace them with Vipers Flexi silicone hose, but first i have a meet in Stirling on the 1st of July with Fiat Scotland then a track day around the middle of July then the Scottish Italian Car & Bike Show at Hopetoun House in August,

Then and only then will i make a start to draining the old system and removing all the old pipework and take from there,

Cheers Scuderia
