Introduction

Hello!

Well, I have been waiting a long time to do this!

Great Looking car.. As i am sure you all agree!

It has its Good points:

No Horrid noises in any gear and the 4x4 system works and sounds brilliant! Its a Sisley! And it came with some nice extras such as the light grill covers.

and also nice low mileage.

And it has its bad points... Lots of bad points:

Mid body rust, This is the worst on the drivers side (in the UK) front wing:

The Doors are Rusty.. Ok, i did expect this as it seems to be a common thing on most Fiats over 10-15 years old:

And the other Door, Not as bad.. I may be able to save this side!

"Phantom Electronics" the electronics do what they want to do, when they want to do it. No Switches necessary!

Also the Fuse box now lives here :( That means that a flap has been cut in the pocket :(

The Exhaust is very broken, in multiple parts. even the down pipe!

Lastly and by far the worst, Under body rust. Now its not as bad as it could be. The rear sills on both sides have a small 1 - 2 inch hole in them. No biggy.
I have still yet to remove all the plastic wheel arch liners and have a proper look.
Here's a picture from the front drivers side wheel arch, its only a skin so a easy repair:

A bit of work needs doing to the brakes, pads i think. The fluid needs changing and the drivers side front brake pipe is corroded so i will replace that.

Also the engine needs a good cleaning up, a full on service replacing the water pump, cam belt, tensioner pulley, distributor cap and rotor arm, filters, oil, radiator, coolant and starter motor.

I also need a few things like a locking filler cap, the little clips that hold the air box together, a new boot gas strut and a non damaged back bumper.

Its the car I have always wanted right from when I was a young lad. So you can imagine how I was when I won it on eBay for a grand total of £547. Getting it from Wales To my home town of Derby Cost me £135.

With some love, care and late nights I reckon I can turn it into a cracking motor!

Oh and stay tuned as I will be keeping a Video Log of what I will be doing to the car on Youtube!

This is the video i took just as the car transporter left from delivering it:

Edit: this is how Talon looks now:

:eek::cool::cool::cool::yum:

Since then Talon has gained more lights, and now has some blue rust free Seat Marbella doors. I had also converted him to Fuel injection, however the parts i used were old and worn so now it is back on Carburettor.

This thread has its ups and downs but through the years Talon and myself have pulled through.

When you are done reading this thread, be sure to check out the little red scrap yard rescued Seat Marbella thread and also Project Fallout!

Peace all and enjoy the thread, videos and pictures!
well a lot has happened since the last post. sadly not with the car.

life has been one kick in the balls after another. loosing jobs, my dad.. loosing everything on my computer, my wrist acting up..

talon seems to think it is funny to join in so he has started to be a b****** to start and also decided to snap his throttle cable.

sadly the one off fallout is a different kind, but i think i can make it fit... correction.. WILL make it fit.

life ay. what a load of s***.

hmm forgot to add that i fixed this. fixed it about 3 weeks ago.

anyway the reason why im making this post. :(

does anyone have any idea as to how much talon would fetch in an auction?
its hard to say i know. but times are hard and with no sight of them ever getting better.

so it has come to this. the marbella is the car we want to sell.. but if it is not worth anything then talon will be the car that has to go.

cosmetically talon looks bad.. i wont deny that. i will however say that mechanically talon is sound.. super sound. however from previously working in sales i know that appearance is the key to making the most money.

so. any guesses?

strait up answers please.

Hi John,

Very sorry to here the crappy situation has got worse, price wise these are an odd ball, a running one with tax and test should fetch a good amount of money regardless of cosmetics providing its not terminal rust.

Put it on ebay with a reserve you are happy with and I think it should go for what the market can bare, if you wait for a few more days till we get a dusting of snow as well prices should rocket.

That is a REALLY tricky one John, but I genuinely hope you don't try to sell him!

It's tricky because all the work in it doesn't translate into a desirable end Panda for a lot of people who are interested only in cosmetics. You've already identified that of course.

I don't think it's worth £2k, and I don't think it's under £1k. You do have a limited market due to the cosmetics, but as I know the work undertaken and also how uncannily quiet the engine is for a 4x4 (I was shocked when you gave me a lift!!!), I'm plumping for £1500 as top whack. Might take a while to find the right buyer though - it's someone like me, but with less cars......

I hope you get a few more opinions now we're back from the NEC, as I'm interested to see where certain other people pitch their values!

Unfortunately unless you find someone that wants a Sisley but doesn't care about condition you won't get a lot for it. they would also have to be handy with the DIY restoration stuff as otherwise they will be paying for it and that comes out of the buying budget.

I am in the early stages of looking for a Classic Panda (trying to sort funds at the moment) and one needing 'cosmetic' work would have to be keenly priced to make it attractive as I would have to pay someone to fix it/respray it. While the people on here know Talon is a rare beast the general public see it as a tatty Panda in need of major reconstructive surgery. I would say it would bring sub £500 as a runner depending on the length of the MOT (the shorter the MOT the lower the price).

Some one show me a panda 4x4 with tax and test for less than £500 and ill eat my socks :p

Agreed, that's why I plumped for up to £1500.

The Sisley could be worth up to £3500 with a respray, so that still gives someone £2000 for the paint. It can't be less than £500 as rotted out basket cases are now at that level it seems.

yep, totally agree. 4x4 panda's always seem alot of money whenever i see one. There is one on car and classic atm for just shy of £3k - does look really nice mind. I have not seen one for under £500 in time.

I don't think talon is as bad as you make out either, ok its not all the same colour and its not showroom condition but from what i have seen of it in the flesh it looks like a solid car. The fact panels are different colours just shows that parts have been swapped out for better parts. I wouldn't like to put a price on it but its not a bad example in my opinion - and really anyone who buys a panda now is looking for a panda - you don't just buy one cause they are cheap anymore, you buy one because you want one, and the kinda person that wants a panda will surely see through the imperfections and see a solid car and pay accordingly...

What will effect the price the most is how quick you want to get rid should the time come.

If you're willing to sit and wait you could get £1700 if you want shot tomorrow you might have to take £500 there are so few about and in such variable states, it will be very dependant on the person who comes to buy

The last thing I'm sure you'd want to see is it on eBay advertised for parts which is a risk with any of these sold now especially with tax and test running out, hope you're able to hang on to it and ride out the rough
