Panda (Classic) John Dragon Man's 4x4 Sisley

Introduction

Hello!

Well, I have been waiting a long time to do this!

Introducing (Drum roll please!).....

Edit: about half way through the time it took me to get the car on the road it found the name Talon. So everyone Meet:

Great Looking car.. As i am sure you all agree!

It has its Good points:

No Horrid noises in any gear and the 4x4 system works and sounds brilliant! Its a Sisley! And it came with some nice extras such as the light grill covers.

and also nice low mileage.

And it has its bad points... Lots of bad points:

Mid body rust, This is the worst on the drivers side (in the UK) front wing:

The Doors are Rusty.. Ok, i did expect this as it seems to be a common thing on most Fiats over 10-15 years old:

And the other Door, Not as bad.. I may be able to save this side!

"Phantom Electronics" the electronics do what they want to do, when they want to do it. No Switches necessary!

Also the Fuse box now lives here :( That means that a flap has been cut in the pocket :(

The Exhaust is very broken, in multiple parts. even the down pipe!

Lastly and by far the worst, Under body rust. Now its not as bad as it could be. The rear sills on both sides have a small 1 - 2 inch hole in them. No biggy.
I have still yet to remove all the plastic wheel arch liners and have a proper look.
Here's a picture from the front drivers side wheel arch, its only a skin so a easy repair:

A bit of work needs doing to the brakes, pads i think. The fluid needs changing and the drivers side front brake pipe is corroded so i will replace that.

Also the engine needs a good cleaning up, a full on service replacing the water pump, cam belt, tensioner pulley, distributor cap and rotor arm, filters, oil, radiator, coolant and starter motor.

I also need a few things like a locking filler cap, the little clips that hold the air box together, a new boot gas strut and a non damaged back bumper.

Its the car I have always wanted right from when I was a young lad. So you can imagine how I was when I won it on eBay for a grand total of £547. Getting it from Wales To my home town of Derby Cost me £135.

With some love, care and late nights I reckon I can turn it into a cracking motor!

Oh and stay tuned as I will be keeping a Video Log of what I will be doing to the car on Youtube!

This is the video i took just as the car transporter left from delivering it:

I am so very proud to be the owner of a Fiat Panda 4x4 Sisley!

:D:D:D

Edit: this is how Talon looks now:

:eek::cool::cool::cool::yum:

Since then Talon has gained more lights, and now has some blue rust free Seat Marbella doors. I had also converted him to Fuel injection, however the parts i used were old and worn so now it is back on Carburettor.

This thread has its ups and downs but through the years Talon and myself have pulled through.

When you are done reading this thread, be sure to check out the little red scrap yard rescued Seat Marbella thread and also Project Fallout!

Peace all and enjoy the thread, videos and pictures!
Have to agree, collecting a car with no tax and test involves a transporter for any one who likes to stay legal and this offsets the cost massively, that and a car with no MOT is a unknown variable for many many people that they wont want to take on.... unless your me and clinically insain

 i was told i have behavioual problems at the NEC!

John
Sorry to read this post. I can only imagine what you must be going through to have to consider parting with Talon now.
You've been an inspiration throughout the restoration so far and I'd feel cheated not to see the finish.
So I'm in. Where do I send my contribution to the whip round?:worship:

Just the outside was quoted at £800. I gave them the shell and they did outside, inside, engine bay, bumpers, wheel trims, made the Bianca logos and painted door mirror bits. All in £1100. It's as good as a panda needs to be...after all it's not a DB5.

Sorry for talking about this on your thread and I hope your able to hold onto talon.

Hi john
Mark here, you were kind enough to point me in the right direction on the forum the other day.
I haven't been a member long but I have seen your passion in Talon and your input on the FF.
If you decide to keep Talon I would gladly donate £100 towards you keeping your beloved Sisley and getting it resprayed for you to keep it.
This offer is if you decide to keep Talon of course and not if you are going to sell it.
Happy to discuss this via PM or phone when you decide what you are doing.

Cheers
Mark

guys, i cant take money from people. the whip around idea, all be it nice, is a no go. this forum has given me more than just help. i keep saying that one day i will pay it back.. and one day i will.

talon will not be sold. he is worth far more than money to me. even if i cant use him. i have been offered 2 mk 2 doors that i can use to repair talons old doors. one day i will do that, and one day talon will have a respray and be fitted back with his original wheels.

one day.

dreams are still free right?

 This is the sort of thing forums should be about, supporting our fellow enthusiasts .

Glad you've decided to keep Talon, after all what would CLS do if you weren't around to keep him on the straight and narrow  I hate to think what fizzle would look like if CLS was left to his own devices ;)

Looks like I've joined this after the subject has gone full circle!

John I'm pleased to see you're not selling Talon after all. You've made him very personal to you so that's where he belongs. I agree with those recommending that you get a new mot then sorn him till life turns in a better direction, because it will.

Remember when you first joined us on here with no Panda and no job feeling very sorry for yourself, then along came Talon and YouTube and everything came good. Ok life has taken a dip once again but that's what it does for most of us, it certainly has for me many times and will again I'm sure.

Now you know from experience that whether things are good or bad they never stay one way or the other, and this time next year you could be back on top again, just make sure you still have Talon when that time comes. (y)

Insurance cost history... (so i dont forget)
ok so i started off with a 1996 corsa 1.5TD @ £4000 to insure (was never insured - sold).
first road going car was my 1998 Cinquecento SX 899cc @ £1645 (fully comp) drove it a year and sold it when i got talon on the road.
then i got Talon road worthy, @ £850 (TPFF)

So Guesses please as to how much my insurance is for Talon now.....
