Panda (Classic) John Dragon Man's 4x4 Sisley

Introduction

Hello!

Well, I have been waiting a long time to do this!

Introducing (Drum roll please!).....

Edit: about half way through the time it took me to get the car on the road it found the name Talon. So everyone Meet:

Great Looking car.. As i am sure you all agree!

It has its Good points:

No Horrid noises in any gear and the 4x4 system works and sounds brilliant! Its a Sisley! And it came with some nice extras such as the light grill covers.

and also nice low mileage.

And it has its bad points... Lots of bad points:

Mid body rust, This is the worst on the drivers side (in the UK) front wing:

The Doors are Rusty.. Ok, i did expect this as it seems to be a common thing on most Fiats over 10-15 years old:

And the other Door, Not as bad.. I may be able to save this side!

"Phantom Electronics" the electronics do what they want to do, when they want to do it. No Switches necessary!

Also the Fuse box now lives here :( That means that a flap has been cut in the pocket :(

The Exhaust is very broken, in multiple parts. even the down pipe!

Lastly and by far the worst, Under body rust. Now its not as bad as it could be. The rear sills on both sides have a small 1 - 2 inch hole in them. No biggy.
I have still yet to remove all the plastic wheel arch liners and have a proper look.
Here's a picture from the front drivers side wheel arch, its only a skin so a easy repair:

A bit of work needs doing to the brakes, pads i think. The fluid needs changing and the drivers side front brake pipe is corroded so i will replace that.

Also the engine needs a good cleaning up, a full on service replacing the water pump, cam belt, tensioner pulley, distributor cap and rotor arm, filters, oil, radiator, coolant and starter motor.

I also need a few things like a locking filler cap, the little clips that hold the air box together, a new boot gas strut and a non damaged back bumper.

Its the car I have always wanted right from when I was a young lad. So you can imagine how I was when I won it on eBay for a grand total of £547. Getting it from Wales To my home town of Derby Cost me £135.

With some love, care and late nights I reckon I can turn it into a cracking motor!

Oh and stay tuned as I will be keeping a Video Log of what I will be doing to the car on Youtube!

This is the video i took just as the car transporter left from delivering it:

I am so very proud to be the owner of a Fiat Panda 4x4 Sisley!

:D:D:D

Edit: this is how Talon looks now:

:eek::cool::cool::cool::yum:

Since then Talon has gained more lights, and now has some blue rust free Seat Marbella doors. I had also converted him to Fuel injection, however the parts i used were old and worn so now it is back on Carburettor.

This thread has its ups and downs but through the years Talon and myself have pulled through.

When you are done reading this thread, be sure to check out the little red scrap yard rescued Seat Marbella thread and also Project Fallout!

Peace all and enjoy the thread, videos and pictures!
Their are those of us who did not make it to Stanford Hall, Auto Italia.

that also means that they did not see what Talon looks like now!

Well, Heres a few pictures :

Dont forget to check out the video of the well planned out FF stand and its cars.. also the panda madness video.. i guess you should see that..

Jasper was across in the "posh" bit, not winning a prize in the concours. The one in your roaming video was an imposter

That is Jasper in the line up though. These Panda's move quickly so you need to keep your wits about you ;)

John, those videos are like listening to your inner monologue.

if that means that i am crazy.. yes.. yes i am. working on classic pandas.. do things to you.. they DO things to you man.. in your head... pandas...

and i am now trying to get another!! (arranging transport for it!)

me... panda crazy? thats.. madness hahahahahaha:devil::slayer::slayer::slayer::slayer:

i must admit, i am finding it rather hard to find anyone who can transport a car 60 miles for less than £140 that really how much insurance is sticking it to them now??!!

last year in april, it cost £130 to move Talon 120 miles.

man, i was looking to pay a max of £90 to get the car here.
it looks like i wont be able to get the panda here :/ i just dont have £140... hell i dont have £90.. that is being borrowed* from a family member.

*long term 0% interest

anyway benny279 snapped this fantastic picture of Talon at the mini meet we had:

looks epic huh?

its my desktop's wall paper

Talon now is starting to get a crunch in 4th..
i am starting to doubt this "correct ZC90" oil thing..

driving it like it is made of glass is not the right way to drive it?

one day i will get a gearbox rebuild. ask if i can have the syncros made out of... something different. i'll also ask if i can have 4th and 5th made a little taller.

sadly that will only happen when the box truly dies as i cant afford a box rebuild. not with tax insurance and MOT coming up around Christmas

Didge

Are you not old enough to know how to double-de-clutch?

Then again it may not matter in a Panda because it would be stationary by the time anyone did it.

Not enough forward momentum , you see!

I do know how to double clutch and even rev match
However as you said, by the time I've done that, especially in a 750 you've lost all of your forward momentum ;)

i change gear really low down, i try to change under 3k rpm. (i'm a firm believer where the faster something moves the quicker it wares out)
i also do reallllllyy sloooooowwwww gear changes to give the syncros time to slow down for the next gear. (hold in neutral for a while)

yeah i can double clutch. it was the only way to change gear on my 2nd bike.

Talons clutch is very light (puts most hydraulic clutches to shame) wondering if it needs adjustment. the pedal sits perfectly though.
if a box swap was a 5 min job, i'd stick the one on it from the fallout project.
that has more leaks than grumbleweeds old box though :/ no oil left in it.. must have all came out by now. ive never seen CV boots so torn up. its like some crazed butcher has attacked them with a craft knife.

all this talk of grinding gearboxes, if i get a panda i cannot deal with that - i know its no use here on talon but could you not drop a cento box on a 2wd panda? cento boxes only grind when they are broken... i can't see them being that different and there is still plenty of sei sportings kicking about and being broken or in scrap yards etc.

I wouldn't know but I think later 'boxes aren't as bad, my '92 actually only crunches one gear and only if you really rush it, 90% its silent, (well except when you engage the clutch in neutral then it rattles like its about to drop off the car. I'm told this is normal).
The only way I can guarantee a crunch is if I change from 1st straight to 3rd, it always crunches then
