it seems they are also the best addresses to use if you want a personal response to something.

Surely it all depends on why they wanted to contact you in the first place - if you don't use paypal often, or don't have an account, then something is fishy about it about IF they want to contact you out of the blue.

They wanted to do a security check and had been trying to ring me, went on site just out of interest (.co.uk) and the phone number was set to my old one which is no longer in existence so ive changed it to current one

Im sure i posted the whole email message, it should say the reasoning in that

Well, I am sure they have loads of users - and they just so happened to try and and contact you because your phone number was wrong?

Surely there must have been a reason to do that - and that reason is now confirmed as a security check, which isn't stated in the original email, as posted above.....
