3. Click 'Phone' under the Account Information column.
4. Select the telephone number you want to change and click 'Edit'.
5. Enter your new telephone number and click 'Save'.

It is my pleasure to assist you. Thank you for choosing PayPal.

I have had this email a few times, and I promise it is fake. If you think Paypal is genuinely trying to contact you then send them an email asking them to confirm this.

I always manually type in www.paypal.co.uk (not com) and I look for the Paypal symbol in the address bar, just to the left of the "http://" bit. Then i know I am in the right place.

I have attached a pic of the genuine page from paypal. notice all the logos and symbols I referred to.

it says on their website to look out for emails like that.

its regulary done with fake online banking etc too.

Yeah, I lost $750 million this way, from my account in Nigeria.

Has anyone seen my money? Last known to be with a Mr Paul Bwembe of the Church or Eternal Fiscal Happiness in Nigeria. :D

Hi,

Ive spent years modifying computers and setting up servers ,trust me this is a fake ,

a normal website starts with http://www.paypal.com ,on your email you recieved i says log in to your paypal account at https://www.paypal.com

spot the difference between the real http:// part and the fake one

Another way to find out is to send a reply (DO NOT GIVE ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION) to the alleged email address. 9 times out 10 it will be returned as undeliverable, in other words it's a fake and the email is a con trick.

Sometimes I WILL go to the link they provide, and when it asks for email address and password I type in lots of rude responses i.e. [email protected] etc.

Always manually log into the PayPal site, and if there are any genuine messages they will be there. Random emails with dodgy email addresses are nearly always scams.

Another one to look out for is one saying that £X amount of money has been withdrawn from your Paypal account for an item such as a flat screen television. It then gives you the 'PayPal' link, which a lot of shocked people will rush to in a panic. Of course, it's a scam and it then asks for your account details...

I recently downloaded the Mozilla Firefox browser and it does a good job of identifying rogue sites. When I went to the dodgy Paypal site Firefox immediately warned me it was bogus. I knew it was anyway (was getting my revenge by putting in bogus details and rude messages  ), but for those not sure maybe downloading the Firefox browser might be a good idea.

https means it's secure ala ebay etc, usually urls starting with this are encrypted, the wee padlock etc.

Strangely looks legit to me.

Erm, what? s just means it's a secure server, http://...will automatically redirect you to it anyway.

Yep

http:// - Unsecured webserver
https:// Secured (SSL) webserver usually - Look for presence of certificates and check validity

Duuuhhhhh.....both of those links takes you to the genuine Paypal site

As has been said, the "s" in "https" means it is a secured website with security protocols in place, which is good for example for allowing safe secure payments to be made.

No offence, but if I were you I would go back to the beginning of all those years of modifying computers and setting up servers and start again! That way you wont be giving out dodgy info! :p

Remind me not to let you near my pc, by the way :D

(Of course I am just teasing you here, so take it as it is meant - in fun, nothing malicious :))

Just typed it in not clicking any links, but followed instructions and it turned out my phone number was wrong as it was set up for my old phone, so just changed it, so looks like it was legit :)

Best way to tell if a URL is legit is to hover your cursor over the link. If you look at the bottom left hand corner, you'll see the real URL that will be followed. If it looks like a weird URL, it's probably a link to a phishing site.

Good Advice if they have status bar on!, where can they see it using inferior browsers like fairyfox and ofal?

Are you entirely sure? That email address it came from does not seem to be a normal Paypal corporate address : [email protected]
