Guys what is going on how is the steering wheel turning? I think i am missing something. Is this not using steering belt?

What's a steering wheel belt?

The wheel is directly attached via a metal shaft to the steering rack/linkage's

Do you mean the belt for the pump?
If so it didn't have one it's a electric powered column

Ok sorry then i have never seen one i guess i am getting a bit outdated. So..do i change this electric powered column? Is that the name of the part?

Are you having a steering problem?
Yes the car is from 2014 and i feel some tension when turning around. I do deliveries so when i bought it new it was very smooth and now i feel like the wheel inside is even touching something

Is this when you are on full lock in particular?
I am not sure what you mean. I experience subtle slushing sounds and a bit of resistance when i steer the steering wheel very fast or if i leave the it to me steered straight by the stabilizing control after i take a turn.

Does it feel any different when you have the steering set on the normal setting and then the urban setting - urban being more assistance to the steering, making it feel lighter.
As Chris said, I be checking all the suspension stuff first as the steering column looks a pig to get out.

No they are new we changed them last month i know how it feels to drive without them. Old ones were gone now i drive with 1 mile per hour on these evil bups set up on the residential roads.

I know about city and non city button i use it all the time.

If its so hard and expensive i will keep driving for now but if it breaks my experience with Ford Transit before is ..you can not deliver so no income.

The electric steering is known to give problems on our cars but it may not be the column unit itself. Typically a battery in the early stages of failing can be a problem. The steering takes quite a large current draw and can demand it for much longer than, say, a starter motor so really stresses the battery. Monitor the battery voltage with a voltmeter whilst turning the steering wheel. If voltage drops under about 11.5 volts ( although I'd hope to see more) you may be needing a new battery. There is an earth lead from the chassis to the gearbox, under the battery tray, which is known to corrode and may need to be replaced. Also check the battery terminals and lead connections. If it does prove to be the steering unit itself then replacing it with a new unit will require access to a suitable computer tool (dealer tool or Multiecuscan for instance) so the new unit can be coded to the vehicle. Better, in my opinion, to send the old unit to someone like Western: https://shop.westernpowersteering.co.uk/category-264/fiat-panda-eps-power-steering-column.html because, being the car's original unit, when you get it back it's a simple job of refitting it and driving off as it won't need to be recoded to the car. ie. "Plug and play"

If you click my link to Western you'll find a useful list of stuff that commonly goes wrong with them. Maybe a good idea to get some specialist advice on yours before splashing out any money though?

Good luck with whatever you decide to do and do let us know how things turn out

The slushing sound sounds like it could be water in the car due to blocked scuttle drains(duckbills) which if you look through the forum these cars are well known for it, when I had problems with the steering when the battery was failing one of the main symptoms was slightly heavier steering & also when turning the wheel at all whilst driving it wouldn't re centre itself when you let go of the wheel, it would just stay in the position you had it, a new battery fully cured it

I have contacted some italian producers and they give price of about 100 but only for right hand side driving they said. So i am wondering ... Does that matter? Why in UK they extort us for 3 to 6 tines that amount

Yes and then it goes away.
Ok..

So if that Red light is working..but never coming on in use

I suspect the electrical side of your 'power assisted steering' is ok

Its ONLY the column that has electrics..the Rack is a standard manual one

So before spending lots of money:

Put it up off the ground

Break the TrackRodEnd connections to front hubs

Swing struts full lock..any resistance ?

Then start engine and twirl the wheel.. any obvious tight patches while running lock to lock..??
