Technical  How to fix central locking

You should be able to fool the door to thinking its locked. Just click the door catch with a screwdriver until it clicks twice (with door open) then try the central locking. Just remember to unlock again with inside door handle before you shut the door properly or you will break it. If its not lining up this may have already happened.

I think the door catch is already knackered, it's hard to explain how it behaves but basically it doesn't move to allow the door to catch on, it just sticks and the door then smacks against the metal catch, I have to manually move the catch out of the way in order for the door to actually close

There.. might be nothing wrong with door catch,

if striker plate is off, then catch wont be doing its job,

Is there any tell tale sighns of posibilty door has come off another punto?

I think your right about the catch, have adjusted the striker plate correctly and the door now lines up and has shut properly everytime up to now (fingers crossed)!

Nothing is shouting out to me suggesting that it's a replacement door..

I decided to take the check pin out and as I closed the door the check strap decided to eat itself..so I've now removed that and it is knackered..

And here's the pin

Update: ok after a more detailed look I am now more convinced that the door has been replaced or refitted incorrectly, and maybe even water damage has occured..

I have spotted that the passenger door looks as if the hinges have been welded back on, there is also no rubber in between the door and chassis to protect from waters running down - this could explain the manky door hinges and check strap and maybe even wire damage. Also the door just will not line up properly or even shut properly, you have to really slam it and even then the bottom of the door stays slightly open.

I will post some pictures up of the good door and then the bad door for you to judge for yourself..pics to follow..

These are pictures from the good, working door (drivers side).

might still be out on the striker plate,
you have to mess about and line them up bit by bit,
ive done a few like this,

last one idid -you had to grab top of door to open it,with force.
it had been like that 5 years, some punto owners are not fussed and carnt be arsed sorting little jobs like this,

glad to see your not giving up on it tho, (y)

Did you check v5.
special notes section,?

normaly will say: this vehicle as previously been written off,/substantialy repaired, if on hit list,

id pay for a search, and if comes back on hit list and not disclosed by previous owner,.go and ask for your coin back..

I did a search through my text check and there's nothing wrong, not a write off or substantially repaired..maybe just a replacement door then...

ah rite,

maybe its just been torn then,
easily done on these punto's. (watch out for moody door handles)
some can stay up and then door will fly open.

best to replace door imho. nothing worse than working with past owners mess.
other than that the car looks tidy.. (y)

Ye it is a generally tidy car, nothing that I can't fix up with a bit of tlc :) only big problem atm is this door and central locking..she's booked in for cambelt and water pump next week

Ok will look into a replacement door, will the new door come with all the required parts, I.e. actuator, motor, etc? And is it a simple enough job to replace?

Thanks guys!

Depends what you buy it has,
bare is bare, 25-30 notes,

complete, will be glass handle and everything ,
you dont need all that,

id change the striker plate, that maybe be bent ish -so if throwing straight door on- then you might as well- put that on two off same donor car,

get one off same year-ish. due to paint age,

Will check my local 'useless' scrappy then, and before I get it then I will strip my door bare and keep all the things I need, will get new plate aswell

Thanks

Have found a couple of good looking matching doors that may be suitable, but I just wanted to clarify something first..the bare door that I'm buying, will it come ready to fit straight onto the body of mine i.e. no welding or anything required?

reason I ask is none of them are clear regarding hinges and such, does the car door come with the welded hinge that is required?

thanks!

The hinges are already welded on,so will come with,

punto doors just fit on like a gate iirc,

imight be wrong tho,

make sure colour code is same, there is two colours, ;)

Ok thanks that's good to know before I order, as one states it comes without hinges,

Mine is broom yellow, what other yellow is there? Will double check my paint code

Thanks
