help needed with acceleration rattle!!!!!!

experiencing a rattle thru accelerating and at some point when idoling and on start up, no problem whilst driving, thought the throttle cable maybe the problem???? can anyone advise????

if its under the car, or sounds slightly metalic I suggest its the Cat[alytic converter]

If you're from Tipton I suggest you check it's not because someone has nicked your wheels. If everything appears to be there, I support dave's suggestion, I too have an annoying heat shield rattle which keeps coming back every time it's supposedly stuck in place :bang:

sounds metal to metal,so heatshiel or cat breaking up.when hot,jack the car up and run the car and try to pinpoint the noise[might need a helper to use the throttle].

hey guys, thanks for all ur tips!

its seemed to av got worse so i defo think its th top end goin cos u hear it slightly on start up an acceleratin thru th revs. wen i ad my head gasket dun at me local garage, of which me m8 works there an gave me a few handy discounts! wkd! ne way i told him bout this an he reckoned it mite b th top end but th best place to go was an engine specialist an somethin bout gettin th piston rings renewed, how ever they do that.

jus wondered if anyone has experienced th same as me an if they can shed ne light on th subject?

oh by th way, i drive a mk1 punto 85 sx s98

how can he reckon top end, then suggest piston rings? Piston rings are bottom end and don't make rattle noises generally!

I still think it'll be the exhaust hitting something, on a cinq i would suspect exahust hitting the arb (like mine does cos i didnt put a bracket back on!)

The missus drives a mark1 sporting(broom yellow of course) and has the same problem.I got under her (the car) at the weekend, turned out it was the exhaust rattling on the heat shield. Before that it was a bracket broke on the front pipe causing the braided part to sag and break whatever was in there. Im sick of telling her to take it easier over the speed bumps:bang:

thanx guys, this has made me feel a little bit better.
i did actually put a cat back system on th car bak in august i think, whether i loosened ne thin up then or not i dont know.
i'll get under th car on sunday (thanx MATT 68) an hav a look. c if it is th exhaust an heat shield.

Thats because the garage hat fixes it want you to keep coming back to have a look at ya Im sure on the bravas the heat shield drops onto the exhust top in the gerabox tunnel (or what would be if it wernt front wheel drive) an just needs bigger washers put in the bolts underneath to support the surrounding area, has done on 4 of my dads 7 brava's

So tell your mate or garge to stop 'deeksting at you' and get the job done!!!!

EDIT - forgot to mention I can no longer hear the heat shield rattle, either it's been tightened up or the exhaust note drowns it out *shrugs*
