Should be good nuova, we would have gone over Warsaw if my Grandfather wasn't 85 and could have taken the plane journey/train.

The fact still stands, I don't believe any immigrants are preventing us from santa, the powers that be are.

You don't need to keep repeating this, I don't see anyone on here doubting it!

But then each and every reply goes:

"No immigrant has any right to take away my christmas"

- it's very fustrating to have to keep repeating myself to have the same comments said which are irrelevant given the likely truth.

But these are both true! The "powers that be" only get the idea when someone (presumably an 'immigrant') complains. Nobody is doubting that they overreact and equally nobody is saying that all immigrants complain.

We're all of the same view here! nobody is saying that it is all imigrants who cause the problem, but the issue does always originate with a minority of people who 'object' to it. The politicians then make a stupid decision of listening of the miority and not the majority.

As for Easter, that is a greater religious occassion than Christmas, imo.

Heard that from several other Christians too!

Can't wait for McD's to do the Creme Egg McFlurries personally :D

Yep, the Easter Triduum is very moving - from Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and onto the Holy Saturday - Easter Sunday itself is the more relaxing, joyous occassion. PLUS 5 DAYS OFF WORK, YAY ;)

And don't forget the Shrove Tuesday, which is supposed to signify start of Lent, and the 40 days and nights in the Wilderness - but still, good way of advertising Jif lemon in a bottle for those pancakes....

I love being fustrated ;)

Stu, that is the general consensus, "He" gave more through death than birth.

Anyway, one of the owners of a big toy store in the bullring refused to do haloween and refused to sell Harry Potter goods because it's magic and magic isn't real, where as God is....what do people think of this, this is the same but from the other point of view.

I know, i've got lab sessions this afternoon, today it's 3 hours doing a website instead of doing some engineering type stuff, oh well, should be much easier!

Oh, you meant "that" ;)

Along the religion being taught in school thread, last yr 2 of my lads were in high school and they came home the begining of term asking for me to back all their books, i backed them all in spooky ghost/churchyardy paper which they liked. Jason took his book into R.E to be told to reback his book as it wasnt R.E related material, i thought HMMM NOT R.E related  so i got on my high horse and printed off pictures of Hitler/Gengis Kann/ and a couple of other religoius dictators and i covered his book in them. Again Jason returned home with the order " re back your book this is NOT R.E related". So i sent in a letter explaining that i agreed that my son had to grow up to understand and respect other religions but he also had to be taught about people who would impose their views and persecute people because of their religious beliefs. I said that "Hitler was a narrow minded dictator who imposed his views and beliefs upon the minority and if you wish to discuss what YOU feel is R.E related material you can contact me direct on ***** ****** " needless to say Jason has had no probs with him since :D

Also I, like Stu, found solstis within the faith of Christianty when my parents died. When i tell people im a Born again Christian its as though you've got the plague :( to me my faith is just that, MINE, i dont impose it on others, not even the boys, if they make a choice to worship God then thats fine, but if they dont want to that also fine. Nick (13) decided to tell me the other day that he wants to become a Buddist

Todays Christmas's have long forgotten the religious message and is now just a reason to spend loads of money and end up in debt till next year :( Roll on xmas :D

Just found out that Northampton has also banned Santa's grotto coz of the upset it MAY cause......aargh.......

Now what would happen if we had a Coca-Cola Grotto, with a copyrighted guy in a red suit giving out presents? Hmmm.

Debate is very important because allows people to circumnavigate a topic and provide people with ideas and information that they may not have thought of themselves.

As for banning Santa, the thread has debated other issues, hence the post about missing the point, the point was not missed just stayed from.

Controlled debate can be restrictive, because it does not allow straying from topic, which can be essential when considering everything that influeces the subject matter.

As for skirting around issues, I am far to opinionated for no debating to occur while I'm visiting this forum.

I'll express myself, this time, in a less explicit way.

Stuart will be pleased to hear that Easter is another pagan festival that the christians re-invented. It was their festival of fertility, hence the chicks, bunnies and eggs.

If you ask me fertility is a far more enjoyable thing to celebrate.

We may have re-invented it, but it still shows the passion of Christ as He suffered on the Cross.

At no stage during the Easter Triduum does the mass use chicks, bunnies and eggs - they are left for the Sunday.

Two questions I ask - how many people on this forum have got married, or want to marry, in a church, but are non-believers? And how many people who are about to die [9/11, possibly] make their first and only prayer to God? Why.....

I agree with you there Stuart - I dont' know how people can never go to church and still want a church wedding. As for me, I've never been to church and wouldn't dream of a church wedding unless 'she'(!) was religious.

The whole issue is difficult. I've never been to church and I would say that is because my parents never took me as much as anything else. As far as I can think right now, all my friends who are religious have religious parents - Is this indocrination? Of course not! They're not being forced to be there it's just the way they are brought up. It amounts to the same thing though does it not?
