Sorry Stuart, that was not me at my most articulate. You may have noticed that christianity annoys me, but for the most part christians don't. I have no problem with people believing whatever they see fit to believe. It is after all a belief, it is not necessarily right or wrong, it is just a choice.

You are all missing the point, I am hardly religious, in fact I think it stinks BUT, because of the other religions/cultures that have chosen to live here in the UK, an important part of our celebrations have been stopped in certain areas. Now political correctness and softly softly not wishing to offend anyone bo**ocks out of the way.... I say stuff them all, if little old santa is going to offend anyone then p*ss off on the next slow boat to wherever and dont come back... sorry but this is just going too far, for f**ks sake this is our country, show some respect for its inhabitants and their culture. And I dont care if this offends anyone it needed saying.

Nuova, calm down man! Secondly, think about it, do you really think ethnic minorities have been up in arms about santa, a NON-RELIGIOUS symbol? No way!

The US's position is, one this matter, quite an envious one IMO, at least AFAIK in that they separate education and religion as much as possible.

People People People!!

Right the first thing we need to do is stop all of this hatred and jealousy in a.) this forum and b.) the world

Racism stinks!

I am a christian (or try to be anyway)

I'm not saying I'm perfect by a long way - no one is perfect..

Wars don't start because of religion - wars start because of jeolousy and greed.
People should respect they're neighbours. People should not turn their noses up because a neighbour is muslim and wears different clothing.
WE NEED TO RESPECT EACH OTHER ; LOVE EACH OTHER ; TALK TO EACH OTHER : FIND OUT WHY PEOPLE DO WHAT THEY DO WHAT THEY DO.

IF people need help, try and help ; give them the support they need.

How can someone be disliked cos they dress differently ; like different music or look different.

People start thinking about what you say and do and think about the affects to others.

Sorry have to agree with the above. Where ever I have visited/stayed in the world I have had to adjust to the culture and life style of the country no attempt is made or has been made to amend the lifestyle of that country to appease immigrants.

Why should we?

These people chose to come here and this country and its people accepted them let them accept our culture and learn to live with it and not the people of this country have to adjust to accommodate them.

Also if it is just someone trying to be PC lets hear the ethnic groups, which this is supposed to be for, stand up and say 'leave Christmas alone we are not offended' I very much doubt if we will.

Steve

Oh this is stupid, for the 10th time, I doubt a immigrant has gone to TB and said "i don't like christmas, get rid of it!"

I also very much doubt the average person would go to a shopping centre and say "I think you should have christmas as I am not offended"

Again, I suggest this is a Kumar, an urban myth or just somebody taking the ****.... Again, SANTA IS NOT A RELIGIOUS SYMBOL!

Off Topic...

But I'd just like to say this is how more debates should be!

Everyone giving their opinions, but no personal remarks, no taking the huff, and no 'will you lot stop argueings'.

I've said it before, debate, and infact conflict (of the measured type) are essential ;)

I didn't miss this point, I just put it in a slightly less agressive way.

And I agree with you.

I doubt a immigrant has gone to Tony Blair? and said "i don't like christmas, get rid of it!"

I also very much doubt the average person would go to a shopping centre and say "I think you should have christmas as I am not offended"

I agree with you.

No Santa is not a religious symbol, but he is a symbol of Christmas, whatever the historical originations.

And for completeness...

I agree with this too!

@Stu...

Speak to me in that tone again and I'll send the boys round to mess up your gravel :D

TBH, I think after a few debates got out of hand recently everyone has been skirting around it, like you say, good to get back into really, keeps things rolling ;)

Problem is the subject matter is stupid! :D

How come?

Have you seen some of the daft topics debating societies pick? Doesn't matter so long as it gets the opinions, comments and retorts flowing. :)

Re: @Stu...

It is silly Stu as we don't know the whole story, some say "people who come to my country should follow my beliefs and not moan about them" yet I am yet to meet an person from a different ethnic minority who doesn't disagree about that broadly. (exc. arranged marriages and "unusual" things like that...)

Re: @Stu...

"subject is stupid" Is that a joke or what how can the subject be stupid when it is so relevant it prompts all these posts and opinions on it?

Re: @Stu...

It's stupid because it is :p

Basically it's stupid because I doubt you would find many people who would disagree with the majority of the comments, santa shouldn't be banned, I bet you would find the same percentage of White British and ethnic minorities agreeing too.....!

That's why it is silly.
