Hi,
I am new to the forum, and new to Fiat's
Why is the punto known as "The fire engine"

FIRE = Fully Integrated Robotised Engine

It's the process used to manufacture the 8v engines used in many Fiats, not just Puntos :)

They have the added advantage of being 'non-interference', which essentially means if the cambelt goes your pistons won't destroy your valves (y)

was fiats first engine to be fully built by robots.
the advantage was they are cheaper to make and are all identical.

engines before would have parts made by human and being so where less accurate (on a mass production scale) and stopped people getting monday morning or friday afternoon engines (lazy built engines because the engineers couldnt be arsed after the weekend or looking forward to getting home on a friday :) )

Thanks for that youn learn something everyday.
Regards.
