There is no reason it should not pass retest as long as self adjusters are working.
Remember with both cables fitted and drums removed, only tighten in car adjuster until slack removed without moving stop on either shoe lever away from rest point on shoe, refit drums press foot brake many times to operate self adjusters, spin drums , pump pedal again many times.

Pull hand brake and fingers xed balance bar will not be skewed indicating both sides shoe to drum clearance even.

Leave trim off interior adjuster incase it needs a little turn to please tester.

Have you filed lip off drums so you can fit and remove more easily?

Clean up hub face too with wire brush for best practise

Filing the inner drums is a good idea, i bought some flap discs a while ago but haven't used them for anything yet, so i'll do that. May as well do the drum outers while i'm at it. (y)
 
This is the left handbrake cable that is going on tomorrow. It also has an extra tuft of metal sticking out that will prevent it from going into the equalizer bar under the handbrake lever. I'm pretty sure that should have been taken off at manufacture, surely millions of mechanics aren't grinding this off themselves?

That is one of your easiest tasks.

During manufacture for some makes the wire HAS to go all the way through the nipple to prove strength. You wouldnt want only 1/2mm of wire in the nipple. Yes it would be nice if it was finished but what is price difference between what you have and genuine fiat?
 
I paid £18 for the left handbrake cable and £19 for the right, off eBay.

I checked Fiat Parts Direct, i couldn't find a direct match but they wanted £200 each for a 2012+ Punto. (I can't tell if they're just expensive or selling genuine parts with certainty).

I guess i can grind a little bit of cable for that price difference lol

I bought the car i'm working on for about £650 at auction. Its previous owner had been a learner driver, so it came with long scratches on both sides and a bumper split, but was otherwise in regular shape, needing maintenance but nothing in itself terrible. I keep track of how much i've spent on each of my cars, on this one i've spent £1,130 in parts alone, not tools or consumables. I've had it for just over 2 years and done around 20,000 miles in it.
 
I've just tallied up and if i'd not stuffed up here or there the parts cost would be £730. I break things much less often these days...saying that the droplink for this MOT...mmm... lol
And I thought I was only making a joke...

What do you mean? Entire car costs or just cables for your cars?! 😁
There is a 2010 1.6 Doblo in my drive I paid 280 for a year ago although I have used it for spares so it has paid for it's self, it was a runner with Mot at the time.
I have had customers give me their old vehicles in the past, more recently and more expensive a 2010 Fiat Scudo 8 seater 2.litre six speed LWB cost £1000, several years ago Fiat Unos for £300, prices are going up but genuinely it was rare for me to spend a grand and most were only in three figures. I had a customer with a Toyota van who was retiring so offered me it for nothing , but I gave him one penny so I could put it down as a transaction in my books, that was all Moted and running well, some years ago a customer gave me her Ford Fiesta 1.4 Ghia with 24, 000 miles on it after just settling a bill for £300 roughly as she had decided to stop driving, I had serviced that car for roughly 20 years and she refused any payment. There are many more if I can remember them. I bought a 2012 Citroen C3 Picasso 1.6 diesel for £300 it had done over 200k miles, but I ran it for four years and sold it at auction and got paid £300.

I'd quite like to get some vehicles like that. I could happily take a scrap car, value £300, and put it back on the road. Its hard to get a bargain, but you seem to have found quite a few! Do you still have the Ford Fiesta? must be getting towards vintage these days :)

I ran it for a while, it was at the age where they had a simple computer with a vacuum advance and no points etc. I was lucky to get a good s/h unit as they were unreliable. Still got a good price when sold.
Generally I would buy knowing they needed fixing mechanically, not rust though as I gave up on massive welding jobs years ago. Several of my Doblos in the past were in the £300 price range, runners but had some issue or other.
After retiring I got bored and still wanted to repair mechanical things so that is why some came along.
Until recently before driving issue after a fall I used to go to a mates and we would fix old Cyclemasters, Seagull outboards, 7 tonne Case digger hydraulics etc. followed up by a farm house breakfast, though now I have trouble swallowing certain foods so even that pleasure is gone.:(

Buying any Punto you know it has to come needing mechanical work lol. They are always the cheapest cars at auction by some distance, the buyers don't want to deal with the little things like bulbs blowing every 2 minutes lol

I hope your medical issues improve, the NHS is slow...
