I got the droplink off without using an angle grinder, the thread doesn't look pretty!

The new droplinks will arrive later tonight. So i should be set to try again tomorrow. I'm thinking i'll leave the grease off the new droplink, maybe the grease caused it to slip, who knows. A bit more struggle isn't going to make much difference, its all been a struggle so far :)

Just a small point, looking at the threads in your photo you may not have crossed the threads, but damaged them further down the thread when you used the jack to align the arm /link with the hole in the suspension strut.
So in effect the nut wound down the thread until it jammed on the damaged part further down.
Also as I mentioned earlier the rod has paint chipped off as though it had been strained going into the strut mounting point when you used the jack. Take your time is best. Like the old bull and the young bull joke, "young bull say I am going to run down and have one of those cows, the old bull says I am going to walk down and have the lot".;););)
You seem to be full of wise words and sayings in this thread Mike……are you becoming FF Yoda? 🤣 Oh and just to add, the full phrase in the HGV workshop i did a 2 year stint in before i was a driver was “If you cant fix it…F*ck it so no one else can” The bit on the end is very important 🧐

Just a few sayings picked up in the 1960s apprenticeship in the garage trade before everything became PC.;)
A couple of others, when trying to polish a rough car "it's like trying to get sh*t from a rocking horse" and for a tight boss, "He would skin a turd to save sixpence".:)
Lucky for me I did learn a little about cars along the way too, alledgedly.

'You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig' was one of my workmates sayings.

If Mike was Yoda, he'd be saying it like this:
'Damaged the threads are, the use of the jack has caused this, being heavy handed is not a virtue here, too much use of the force it is' :ROFLMAO:

The new droplink went on without any more problems.

I did the following;

1) Jacked up both sides
2) Decided against the grease and left the impact gun in its case
3) Took my time to hand tighten both nuts slowly
4) Gave them a big final push
5) Took it for a test drive over road bumps and listened for clonking
6) Got distracted by other car things i saw need doing :)

It took about an hour all in. So all good :D

I'll have a look at the brake drums tomorrow and see where they are at.

Two jobs down one to go...:)

I've just had my head under the car looking at the brake cables. The car is still on the ground and its dark, but i got some pictures and video.

The right hand side which failed the MOT doesn't have a proper metallic heatshield. Somebody has custom made a heat shield out of some plastic sheathing. The left hand side does have a proper metallic heatshield.

I pulled the plastic back to see if any metallic heatshield was underneath but i couldn't see anything. There is some kind of bulge that may be the cable catching/snagging or it might be because the plastic sheath is quite loose.
