Its all to do with the sucking action the baby makes while on the breast. The sucking action makes the breast produce the milk.

Ill have to remember this when with the missus Im always a bit thirsty

You lose some of it quicker, but not all. I lost 2 stone breastfeeding James that i put on while pregnant. Only 1 stone leave to go
