Coronavirus - The Thread :(

Mrs C had her 2nd Pfizer jab this afternoon, 9-weeks after the 1st jab.
All very quick & efficient.
No little pot of jam though...

If it follows to plan I should be getting my 2nd AZ jab in May.

What no jam - what a disgrace. Complain to the highest level. Good to hear all went well though and good luck for yours

Yes, after months of frankly bafflingly low numbers India is now a basket case, it exceeds all criteria for being on the UK's red list,

BUT, the UK is in the middle of arranging major trade deals with India

Rather than using what appears to be a pathetic excuse to bash the government, could you actually back up that bashing with an explanation as to how you think organising a trade deal is going to make a difference vs not in respect of India having mass issues currently with Covid and having been plunged back into lockdown.

A lot will be being done remotely, and trading with a country doesn't mean mass travel for pleasure / leisure, or even necessarily business.

as always follow the money, thousands more will die in the UK due to this 'oversight' but that's of little concern to a conservative government as long as they can fake that they are following science whilst keeping their crony mates in receipt of fat government contracts

Enjoy the next few weeks before once again the **** hits the fan

It was in relation to why we havn't put India on the Red List, not why India is doing badly...I would have thought that was obvious
You can wind that neck in now matey

Usually when someone joins this forum, they post something in Newbie Central (https://www.fiatforum.com/newbie-central/), to introduce themself, and usually whatever Fiat they have, or are thinking of getting, rather than immediately posting political comments, followed by a personal attack.

This forum is primarily about ownership and enjoyment of Fiat cars, helping diagnose and fix issues with those cars, with a few asides, usually in the "Leisure Lounge", such as the smile and grumpy threads. This thread was created to keep all comments about covid together, and has raised a few heated discussions, but these should be kept to a minimum.

If you have a Fiat and may wish to seek help with it in the future, starting this way may cause fewer people to offer assistance. The reason we can offer help is that we remember things, often long after a relevant thread has become 'lost' and dificult to find.

So DeadStick, take a breath, and go with the spirit of the forum, or leave to find a more suitable one for your posts. Thank you.

Do they do arms then legs.. or one side then the other?

All 3 of our tribe in Wales now have 1st dose.. oldies AZ
30 year old got Pfizer

All sorted, obviously a clerical error. When I initially had my first jag, a few weeks later a spare vaccine was offered to me early. This third offering is the real time. Glad I’ve been given more choices than less...:D

Received my third appointment for my vaccination. :)
We are to get our second jags on Thursday at the excellent Leith Community Treatment Centre https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leith_Community_Treatment_Centre which is where we got our first ones. Our first ones were the Pfizer product and we believe Thursday's will be the same. Absolutely can't wait!

On a different subject, why does it take so long between declaring a "red" country - like has been done with India - and actually actioning the restrictions? Will not those "desperate" individuals not just jump, en mass, onto the first available flight - or combination of flights - so they can get here before the restrictions take effect?

A very good question Jock. It makes me think of the number of times on budget day they have changed VAT or put beer and petrol up - from midnight the same day. It can be done if they want to. It makes me think they are more concerned with how these actions play out politically rather than the efficacy of them. But then as Mrs Codger keeps telling me I am getting cynical in my old age. And on a bit of a tangent - the vision of our Queen sitting all on her own at her husband's funeral wearing a face mask in frony of millions of viewers around the world has not helped my feelings towards this shower of a government I am afraid.

Desperately sad wasn't it? She looked so small, alone and sad. I got a big lump in my throat and shed a couple of tears for her.

Even worse in emotional terms was my reaction to the report on tonight's news into that poor wee girl who is so badly burned in Syria (I think). We were just in the door long enough, after our day of childminding, for me to have heated up a can of soup and looked out a bread roll for us both. I took two plates of the soup through to the living room where Mrs J had fired up the TV to catch the news and this report came on. Having spent a wonderful day with our young, just toddling, grandson and, after school, his young sister, I just couldn't eat my soup because the images were so upsetting. Man's inhumanity to man - and the little innocent children must suffer!

What's gone wrong with "the great experiment" that is mankind? Why can't we all live together in peace and harmony? Never mind Jock, one day the universe will suffer heat death and long before that all possibility of life as we know it will have ceased - but in the meantime can anyone offer an explanation as to why we are all here and what's it all in aid of?

Sorry folks, went off on one a bit there, but the sight of that poor wee tot has really got to me after a day spent with our wee lad.

I have to admit I got a bit misty eyed myself when the Land Rover crept into shot.

The lump in the throat came when I remembered they are Indian owned.
Ah yes, "proper" Land Rovers. I've a very soft spot for them - not so much the modern ones though.

When I was in getting that tyre fitted to Becky's wheel last week the proceedings were held up because the tyre chap was trying to sort out a problem on a Range Rover. It was a very late model one and driven by a real "Fat Cat" who obviously knew nothing about his vehicle at all. Apparently he'd damaged a tyre and they'd fitted a new one the day before but almost as soon as he'd driven away the tyre pressure light had illuminated on the dash and they were trying to find out why. Turned out in the end that the only tyre on the car correctly pressured was the one they'd fitted the day before!

I was chatting to the chap fitting my tyre and he asked me to guess what the new tyre for the Range Rover had cost. I was wildly out. £175 near enough he told me.

In Portugal the vaccination program is going at very slow pace.

The government keeps advertising the vaccines quantity orders, but the quantity that arrivals it's quite residual.

This covid pandemic it's a pain...

I was absolutely disgusted that she was used as a political pawn so the government could virtue signal how well they do things. There is absolutely no reason why she could not sit with her family "bubble" without the nasty masks.

By the way more people are now dying on the roads than via The Coov.

The vaccines seem to work too well. Just 32 vaccinated people have been hospitalised with the virus.

Taiwan received a batch of 50,000 AZ vaccines, but no one will take them - all this AZ bashing has ruined confidence in it.

Even some of my sensible English friends are against in, despite them being perfectly happy for their gf's to take the contraceptive pills.

Anyway, this means that the Taiwan government are now offering it to anyone who wants it (the batch will expire in May) - so I'm booked in next Tuesday.

I don't really want to have to stay here another 12 weeks though after that - they're letting people choose as short as 8 weeks, but I'm not sure what to do...?

I've mentioned before, Dr. John Campbell, does a daily update. He presents facts, and data, and declares whether any reports are peer-reviewed or not. About a week ago, he dug up some research into adenovirus vectors, and a paper from 2006, I think, that shows a relationship between these type of vaccine and blood clots. The vaccine MUST be injected into a muscle. If it hits a blood vessel, that can cause blood clots later. With such vaccines it is recommended to 'aspirate' before injection. This is described as inserting the needle, then drawing back the plunger a little, before it is then pushed to inject. If a blood vessel is hit, it will draw in blood, which is obvious. It appears that some countries always aspirate, others not, and it can vary between those giving the vaccine.

AZ vaccine is safe if injected properly, so don't worry, just ask them to aspirate. Just typing this having returned from my second dose of AZ. I'm fine so far, but its only been 20 minutes.

How long did you choose to have between doses - I would like to take the shortest, but see things like efficiency will be down 30% or something...

We don't get to choose the timings, as the UK govt extended the intervals to get more first doses done, as protection is very good from 4 weeks after the first dose.
First dose: 28th Jan
Second dose: 21st April
