Hi

Does anyone know how to split the clutch slave cylinder to master cylinder pipe.
I am changing the clutch slave cylinder and can’t separate it from the master cylinder pipe.

Any ideas would be great.

The problem is that darned quick connector.

Once the car's been through a few UK winters, corrosion will have damaged the quick connector between slave and master to the point where it likely can't be split without destroying it.

If that happens, you basically have three choices:

1) if the pipework is still sound, disconnect at the clutch slave cylinder and reuse all the existing pipework

2) replace both slave & master - unfortunately new master cylinders are not that cheap

3) improvise an alternative way of connecting the pipe using whatever means are at your disposal.

If you are only changing the slave then use the exiting pipe. But keep the new pipe that comes with the slave cylinder as you will soon enough be replacing the master cylinder.

When you do fit the new pipe end to end, use some copper paste on the coupling joint. Road salt, stainless spring clips and aluminium body do not mix. Also wrap the coupling in "Denso" tape. That's a grease impregnated cotton tape used for protecting stuff from weathering
