General Cinq/Sei Vs.........

I beat a Ferrari 360 once lol :D only coz he stalled it at the lights tho!! haha!
And as soon as we got into dual carriageway again, i had a very angry sounding F360 blast past me :) that was fun.

Some bloke in a green Primera was really upset when I overtook him today on the way home. Pulled out real close behind me, when the traffic cleared I wound down the driver's window, waved goodbye, dropped to 4th and left him behind.

The joy of taking the turbo to work :)

I loved the look on the guys face in the BMW 330ci coupe a couple of weeks ago when he couldn't leave me on the many exchanges from 50-110. Every time someone pulled out to over take he backed right down to 50 let them make there manoeuvrer, then floored it, I didn't even bother dropping out of fifth, many a glance back in mirror was observed :)

Or the guy in the mark 2 MR2 GT-S last week who was positively caining his car (plumes of smoke out the 2 exhausts testament to this) who again had a look of disbelief as every time he backed off and dropped a gear as I did the same so he couldn't gain any advantage over me :D

I have to say though, that it is the funniest car I have ever driven for sheer grin factor, it never fails to put a smile in my face when driving it. It doesn't handle any where near as good as my integrale, but then thats in a dif. league (6 times in a row WRC champion car no less, more than any other manufacturer's homologation cars with more rally wins than Subaru's Imprezza, Mitsubishi's EVO(s), or the Ford Cosworths), which is why it sits in doors till the fine weather comes, or even close to my highly fettled 5 GT Turbo or the ex's Mk1 106 Rallye (a special rally homologation model its self, hand built engine 1300cc 103bhp etc), but compared to any other car of similar speck/price when new or 2nd hand, its a dam fine car with so much potential! Ah tis back on the road then?

MOT'd?

His face would've been a picture, go Pete for changing peeps view of the Cento's!

Liam
Aye, it spent two weeks up on the stands being de rusted (minor surface stuff) and having brake pipes etc. done in prep for next month's MOT. All new back brakes etc.

If I ever get an intercooler sorted, I'll do the high boost conversion too. Should be bordering on too much power then, really - as it stands it's quick enough, but it's easy to get 'used' to the extra power and want more. Fortunately I've got the silver one to remind me what an ordinary one's like :)

This Primera bloke still wanted to chase when we left the dual carriageway, but I did the 'slow down' flag when we got off on to the 30/40 limits. Don't race in built up bits, me.

Wider tyres is the key. Combated my understeer.

My best one was 2 weeks ago. Beet a 1.6 02 reg Golf. His bumper was level with my wing mirror and I didn't build up any revs before I left either. It's great having such a short gearbox. He passed me though when I hit the "cento 60mph brick wall". hehe. Still shocked him though. lol.

Best bit of fun with a cento ive had though was a few weeks back on the way 2 pick up my 14's on the stretch of motorway between leeds and wetherby. me and a modded cinq sporting just opened out for about 10 mins side by side except dodging the odd car (not literally). brilliant!

Hehe, I love this
I see somebody beat a 205 GTi, either the 115 BHP or 130BHP version...sure!

And Evo, not again, you're a grown man! BMW 330ci couldn't overtake, well if he's being a considerate motorist and letting others past then it's hardly a comparison. Anyway, how long does it take to get a Cinq sporting from 50 to 110 in 5th gear? 90 seconds??

MR-2 aswell, maybe it was a very ill MR-2 hence the smoke, without even looking I am sure the MR-2 isn't in the same league as a cinq whatever model it is.

I am right in remembering you drive a standard 54 BHP sporting, i.e. not a 1242 or turbo....

smurfhead, I might even believe you, the Golfs are heavy and the 1.6 is a little small.

Nah paul sorry, Aaron or Evo has a High Boost Cinq with over 103bhp so I'll assure you it would be rapid!

You were a bit late getting too this thread, see if ben can set you up with some racing search option.

Liam

I believe him then :) (simply because I expect 103BHP in a light car is quite a thing in terms of acceleration!)

I stand corrected :)

I was rather slow, not been out of LL for ages, just trying to get my feet again after my absence, I will have to get my spies, err I mean friends, to look out more closely for a chance of a giggle.

I still love the outrunning a 205 GTi with 105BHP or 130BHP...

Paul, he said it was a 150yard dash, the cinq/sei sporting has short ratio so good 1st/2nd, heck i held off a 2 litre nova till mid 2nd, JR also said he heard the pug hit limiter, which would slow him down even more

(note the nova was on drag strip, so i have witnesses lol! :D)

Paul-

We all know your opinions on things like this by now so maybe you should just leave us all to it........

No one I doubt is gonna start bullsh!tting as we all drive cento's we're gonna know if they're gettin "carried" away so to speak (y)

But Ghost, the GTI has at minimum more than double the power and barely what you would call a high ratio gearbox lol.

Jamie, it's all fun, and a good few of us love these threads. You might be too new to remember but somebody (a learner driver) once claimed they out did a Subaru in their cinq sporting(IIRC) and it went along these lines:

Subu tried to over take, i knocked it from 3rd into 4th and puilled away

hehe!

Paul, a lot of it is about getting the drop on someone. A cento, even an 1108 if it gets a good start - revs right, minimal wheelspin, good clutch control and a swift change to 2nd - is a surprisingly sprightly thing off the line. Once you get beyond 2nd gear, i.e. about 40mph, then you're pretty much screwed against a quicker car.

If the other contender in the traffic light GP isn't as good at emergency starts - you'd be surprised at how many drivers know sod all about clutch control, power bands and the like - then even one car's length can be very difficult to claw back up to 40mph unless you've got some big power.

Yes, if you got the drop on a 130bhp Pug 205 1.9 GTI you could take him to 40mph quite easily. Against a well driven one, my 1242 turbo would probably lose.

remember that one, you do get those but you do get the close to call ones where the cento does genuinely surprise even the driver at times, like i said my 1.1 8v cinq went up against a 2.0 16v nova, and i beat him off the line and for a few seconds i was leading, he went on to beat me by 4 seconds down the strip, but if it had been a traffic light grand prix thing with 2 lanes into 1, he may well have backed down as he wouldnt have got infront of me in time if you get what im saying?

not arguing with you btw :) just having a good debate :)

See personally Pete I agree to a point, however, that point (IMO) stops when the cars are so completely unmatched. a GTi 1.9 205 will do 0-60 in around 7.6 (according to what i can find) in against the cinqs 13.6, that's a hell of a lot of thumbling time (even up to 40mph). A badly driven coupe for example would trounch a Cinq sporting even if driven by a bad driver because even if you spent a few seconds not moving you would catch up VERY quickly.

You know a lot about cars so what does the following imply to you about the gear ratios of the Gti:

Ratios (mph per 1000rpm): 1st 2.92 (6.2); 2nd 1.85 (9.8); 3rd 1.36 (13.3); 4th 1.07 (16.9); 5th 0.86 (20.9). Final-drive ratio 3:69:1

Anything like the cinq?

The GTi wil do 0-40 in 4.1 seconds (found a very interesting site: http://www.boycies.freeserve.co.uk/tspecs.htm)

Look Pcycochat or whatever ya name is, at the end of the day like Jamie86 says we are all cento enthusuasts and why would we bull****. Everyone pratically knows each other and what specs they are running anyway! MY Sei is not standard, so your 13.6-7.4 second theory technically goes out the window, my 0-60 time atm is about 10.1 seconds (computer timed) so, like fixitagaintomorrow says the difference between a good driver and a bad driver especially in a cento can make all the difference. At the end of the day its all a bit of fun, if you read my quote was not i'll beat any "205 gti" it was only once and we were only trading our funniest and best victories - it probably wouldn't happen again if you want to feel better about the fact, if he was a good driver he could have beaten me quite comprehensively. But read what people say, and don't find criticism and try and spoil the fun!
