General Cinq/Sei Vs.........

Who started this french talk, AARON! There is plenty of salivation for you on Ebay, R5 Raiders and last week an Alpine GTA!

Back to topic, Jamie, are you sure it wasn't a two-litre turbo? Vx don't do 1.6t's. (I think anyway)

Liam

sorry im a bit late on this thread but i have beaten a rover 220 t coupe until i hit 3rd and he roared past me at the good old traffic light grand prix my sei,s only got a peco zaust and a few holes drilled in the airbox (i was laughing all the way to 40 tho cos it was my uncle and he challenged me first)

This is only goig on what I have been told....

He used to have a 2L Turbo but it used to twist the chassis so badly and couldn't corner so he had a 1.6T fitted...

I'll try and find out what engine it is :)

I think Turbo Technics used to do a 1.6L conversion using the 8V Nova GSi engine which I think made the car alot more usable than the 2L turbo. If you can find an original TT conversion, they are worth good money now as are the Peugeot 205 GTi Turbo, MK2 XR2 Turbo that they also did or the even rarer Capri Turbo! Maybe one day my Cinq VAD will be the same :)

I think I've said on here before but my mate Robert had the first ever (in the UK at least) 6 speed Calibra trubo'd Nova some 9 years or more ago running nearly 300bhp, and it started to stretch the front of the car giving it stress fractures everywhere and that was on a J reg which was back then only 2/3 year old Nova not like the 12/14 years old they are now so probably weaker & the only remedy was to take it to a professional rally car preparation place and get lots of triangular welds put in the chassis to stop it.

Needless to say he evetually ditched the Nova when a 17 year old one week after passing his test hit the side of it & wrote it off in a, wait for it, wait for it...............................................................................................................................................................................................................................Punto :D

He then transferred everything over into a mint 40K miles J reg MK3 Astra GSi which was a much much better car especially as it ran over 300bhp

Hmmm so guessing that Nova I raced had to be putting out about 160bhp ish?

If nothing done except a turbo?

On another note annoyed a Porker 928 (The fat one  ) When he went to go passed me and I held him off somehow.

Then he decided to show off pulling away from the lights with the back end of his car snaking all over the place.lol

The best bit was when he slowed down looked across and nodded to me with a smile :D (I think it was a smile meaning WTF  ) ;)

I would imagine the 1.6 turbo must put out something like that as the Turbo Technics stuff was always about driveability rather than headline figures. I was once the passenger of a MK2 XR2 Turbo and it went really really well. Turbo Technics were the out fit Ford used on the original MK3 Escort RS turbo which is a significant bit different from the in house MK4 Escort RS turbo, so they know their onions, but then this car could just be an aftermarket TT copy rather than a bona fida TT conversion.

Grip whats that then?

my cinq has decent tyres but if i have to stop on a steep hill, when i move off again i do a wheel spin for about 10seconds before it starts moving!!

i know my cars slower than the sporting but my 899cc car is rather nippy. I am a learner so for a change me dad took over the driving seat. And after a couple of people bibbing him and overtaking him he decided he had had enough.

So he put his foot down and accelarated up to arround 40 miles an hour past all these cars that had bibbed him and overtaked him that were wating at a set of traffic lights there faces were a right picture.

:woot:
899cc At junctions is abt as good as Sporting TBH
Give or take 300cc Capicity...

In all honesty at lights ive been beaten by a girl in a 1.2 punto with her smiling at me and i didnt even try at the second set

but and its a big but i was on my way to my local mod shop one day a while a go and this blue mk2 corsa came up behind me on my bumper nearly i booted it away up this bank which is usually the cinqs week point and i was beating him, he was majorly trying more than me you could hear it screeming but i beat him i pulled up at the shop and he went past and yes i noticed the 12v sybol which means it is 1.0 but that car costs seven times more than mine, has a higher hp figure than mine and four extra valves.

i forgot to mention this at the time but about two weeks ago he tried again going into my favourite country lane i totally lost him untill we came back into a 30 zone and he raced past me at about 50 (Probably didnt want to slow down from his top speed)
it just isnt worth racing in 30 zones

ive beaten a few cars in the country lanes and all which surprised my mate when i had him in with me.

you dont need a big car or a big engine

also one more thing when looking for a new car for my mum we test drove a basic new punto 1.2 8v and it was well quicker than the sports 1.2 SXI corsa we test drove it was totally odd me and my dad couldnt believe it.

Also my mate with the metro at work was on about this thread at work to everyone and how he cant believe how we are all talking rubbish

fact is we arent and as much as he hates to admit it i surprised him when i gave him a lift home one night in my cinq keeping to the speed limit around 90 degreee corners

its a Fiat thing you just wouldnt understand

I've said many a time, Corsa C's are well slow and the lower spec'd 1.2 models i.e. Comfort are faster than the Corsa of choice for the young un's SXI!

Maybe more valves Wayne but the big part is one less cylinder (1.0 only)!

Liam

Corsas generally are sluggish. They're overweight (particularly the C) and the engines are pretty gutless for the capacity.
eg: the 1.2 16v SXi weighs 1020kg  (to put that in perspective, my Capri is muich bigger than a Corsa, it's 18 years old, has a 2-litre all-iron engine and rear-drive running gear, yet still weighs only 5kg more than the Corsa) and its engine puts out 73bhp. Fiat can get more than that from their old 1.2 8v unit, and the Mk1 Punto weighs just over 800kg.
Oh, and a mate of mine has a Corsa B (facelifted original shape one), it's a V-reg 1.0 12v (funny how they use 12-valve when they mean three-pot ;) ), he thought it was great when he got it. At the time I still had my battered and rusty 903cc Uno... which layed waste to his Corsa in a straight line and round corners :D my mate wasn't too happy about that!

What is going on? How can the Cinq/Sei be ultra quick off the line with just 13" of wheel, or 14" if you're lucky, and just 750kg of weight? There just ain't anything to grip the road.

I know this is a ridiculously late reply on the thread but I wanted to point out that people seem to forget that a low radius wheel means favourable gearing for sprint starts - it isn't like we are talking about 300HP cars where there is silly power to try & put down onto the road.
