cheap dash cam?

cheap dash cam?

Even with a double life battery in my phone, the app fairly sucked the life out of it. Only got a few hours' recording. Also noticed glitches whenever I got a text or phone call. Also noticed that the phone was red hot - too hot to hold to my ear to take/make a call.
Also a real PITA having to set the phone up so it's in just the right position.
so much easier to have a proprietry cam (even the G1W). fit, forget, done.

could be handy in the winter then

They were flogging this cam same time last year.
Downside was that this wasn't true 1080p but upscaled 720p & I doubt the 3 year warranty covers that side of it.
720 isn't too bad for general stuff but not great for zooming in on number plates.

I'd rather pay a few quid extra for the mobius or even mini 0805.

Mind you, anything that gets the public even thinking about dashcams can't be all bad.

All looks good aside from the "enhanced 1080p"
Now, is this 1080p with a little something extra thrown in to make it even better?
Or is this some marketing ploy whereby this is actually upscaled 720p?

If everything is as it should be then this would be well worth a punt as an xmas pressie to get nearest and dearest into the world of the dashcam.

i guess you would have to get it and read the box to find out, they have a refund policy

I doubt the box would say any more than they have got in the advert.
From what I can gather, enhanced 1080p is the next stage up towards 4k, a kind of stepping stone between 1080p and 4k.
The only real way to tell (as far as I can gather) is to open the case & inspect each component?
Looks like a cheap way into dashcams to find out if it would be useful, or not.

I see Ring have introduced three dashcams,
http://www.autobiz.ie/news/ring-introduces-new-12-volt-dash-cameras.html
although no information on their website.
Base model on Ebay at £37, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RING-LCD-HD-CAR-DASH-CAMERA-1-5-DISPLAY-WITH-G-SENSOR-MOTION-DETECTION-/181865939800?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368
Mid and top models from Screwfix, http://www.screwfix.com/c/auto-cleaning/sat-navs/cat810010
The base Ring cam says it's 1080p @25fps - which seems rather strange, the norm is 30 or 60 fps & for just shy of £50 I would rather buy a G1W for that form factor or a Mobius for that price (and the mobius will run a 128GB card, giving around 22hrs' recording at maximum resolution & bitrate)

Please you guys who know about these things, have you seen these from EuroCarParts?

Good, Bad, or Ugly?

I'd say bad, looks cheap to start with plus no information on resolution etc.

Much better cameras out there for not a lot more

Hi all

Can't post links yet, sorry, above is the eBay id of my dual cam setup

Got this, front cam works well, rear less so, but planning on sorting that...

But my 1 minute files from the front are a bit over 200mb each - does this seem excessive?
Certainly fills the 8Gb card up pretty quickly...

At that price I'd think it may be worth a punt, not much to lose if not very good. Also the package is good, including an SD card, and the battery life is better than most quote.

thanks for the reply, ive already bought it in case they run out but its still in the box was waiting for FF feed back before using it, do you reckon the motion detection will really work? ive bought some cheap 12 quid cams off ebay they say motion detection but they didn't work.
