cheap dash cam?

cheap dash cam?

Arrggghhhhhh the stupid mount is driving me insane, I can't mount the camera anywhere useful in my Pug 308. It's either right in my field of view of slightly obscured by the rear view mirror. Where ever I mount it, makes it look like a mobile phone left in a mount.... so not too keen on leaving it in the car all the time, and the little clip that attaches it to the mount is ruddy awful and very fiddly.

So to sum this camera up, if it was my own hard earnt cash I'd be fecking livid! As it was free I'll keep it in the car for now, will try it in the landy at the weekend but I don't think the mount will allow it to be angled so it actually see's outside :(

I am going to have a go at making a custom mount / enclosure that it can live in I want to fit and forget until I need footage.

I will get some vids up as soon as I can mount the thing in a place that allows it to record something more interesting than my footwell, the dash top or my rear view mirror :( :bang: (n)

Interesting.
My G1W came yesterday so I put it up alongside my DR32 in order to make a comparison (footage should be on YT but for some reason, YT didn't convert!)

With the standard suction mount on the G1W, it hangs as low as my DR32 (and that has an adapted mount to minimise the aspect!) - so looking forward to having some free time to do a custom-made mount for the G1W.

The DR will not stay on the sunshade portion of the screen so I had to mount it a little lower. The G1W, on the other hand, stuck straight away (9am yesterday) and is still there at the moment.

My only criticism so far would be the 3min screensaver - I feel the screen is on for too long.

Seems YT didn't like my uploading the vid in full HD 1080p so had to make do with 1280x720.

The morning vid isn't the greatest but it gives an idea of how both cams cope with the rain. Right at the end there's a few minutes' footage when the sun's gone down.
Both cams were set to 0 ev. I think the G1W copes better with the dark.

If all goes well with the G1W, I'm considering getting one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mini-Car-...51198858987?pt=UK_Gadgets&hash=item2334277eeb

Ironically, it's for the camera that I'm replacing!
There is a cheaper mount but it's 8mm longer - although it's a ball/socket arrangement so easier to aim.
I'm thinking that this mount will help me mount the camera high up and back from the screen to make it more discrete and, hopefully, less susceptible to the sun.
And maybe even get one for the rear screen.

I know that the G1W doesn't have a tripod mount but I'm sure I can arrange something with a little help from some epoxy glue :-D

3 weeks from China - ordered on 1st jan (I guess they were on holiday?)

Was going to put a bit of window tint over the screen to get away from the 3 minute screensaver but all my son had spare was some limo black - might as well not have the screen on at all!

Hopefully I'll get a chance to play this week during my lunch hours - will take some spares from the scrap bin the workshop and try and fab a mount that allows my camera to sit either above rearview mirror or down on the dash itself, a nice sexy mount down there with extra 12v sockets and a USB port would be rather nice.......

Fingers crossed I'll sort something within the next fortnight or so - didn't get chance at the weekend to test camera in Landy.

also i need to find an ignition on circuit like the blowers, But I dont want o draw it from a high current circuit. less amprage on connection.

also looking at redundant circuits like door mirrors, fuel pump, battery back up sounder

just need to work out how to get ignition power to one of these, and how to tap it off

and just noticed a fatal floor in my working, can't just put multimeter accross, if the other end aint down to earth. this may be easier now i am using my brain
