I would like to install a dash cam, on a permanent wire, so can be hidden. Do I need to tell you?

I bought some sill protectors chrome,
do I need to add it as a mod?

also I intend to install foot well lights.
do i need to add it as a mod?
Sorry for the delay. You will need to notify us if you fit any of these mods so we can put them on record but it won't affect your premium.

But that connector is £4.50!!!! Sod that for a game of soldiers!

Its only about 20p for a crimp connector and a pound for an inline fuse holder at a local motor factors.

There - saved you £3.20, I take paypal :)

Does anyone use the BlackVue.. 550GW.. 2 channel camera?
Not "cheap" but was interested in getting one. Online footage doesn't look very good compared to the GoPro though...

Hey guys. I'm so interested in getting a dash cam. Mainly because I remember all the-..erm, 'pancakes' who do not know how to drive properly through the videos posted in the dash cam videos thread.

I would like to get the cheapest possible with 720p/1080p(if there's not much difference between the prices). Don't want any elegant features. Just would like to record and playback. Would love the overwriting function(not really sure if all dash cams do this so might as well mention it:p).

I've looked through a few pages on this thread but it seems like people prefer different cameras and I don't really know the differences so please do direct if you guys don't mind. Thanks a lot.:)

I'm still OK with using my F70 (dual cam) in the car.

Since my (quite expensive) DR32 started playing up, I ordered a G1W from China (seller recommended in Techmoan's link) and very happy with the quality - 1080p & reasonably decent shots into the evening as well.
The G1W comes in at about £32, roughly the same price as the F70.
G1W is 1080p, F70 is 720p but is dual cam.

There are small cams on the market, 2 action cams which are very small - mobius and Innov C1 (the C1 is from the same place as the DR32 - and as soon as I started talking about problems, the manufacturer ignored me. The manufacturer also doesn't seem to like competition & spends a lot of time 'dissing' the mobius!).
There is also the Mini 0801, supposedly a nice little cam but around the £60 mark. They are also bringing out this cam with a much better processor (A7) and WDR (better quality low light vids), but that'll come in a shade under £100 - but it is a nice, tiny camera.
It all depends on how much cash you want to spend, the quality of video you want & how hidden you like the camera to be.

BTW, basic dashcam function is auto start/stop on power, record in small files (1, 3, 5, or even 10 minute segments) and overwrite oldest files when the card is full.

Thank you very much. That single post cleared up a lot in my head. :) I am going for either the G1W or the F70. Gonna have to think about my choice for a bit though as the dual cam seems like a very nice idea but my thinking is that I was really only interested in the front view so I'm asking myself if I need the rear camera at all. I guess I just don't know the significance of having it yet.

It's another can of worms.
Personally, I believe a rear cam is fairly essential & I think MEP would agree.

But there also comes a time when you feel that video quality could be better.

The F70 is a great little cam for the money but I do feel the low light video is a let down. The G1W has better video quality all round but is let down by its size.
I'm hanging in there with my current setup, there's supposedly good things in the pipeline (mini 0801 with A7 processor & WDR). If a decent dual cam isn't released then I reckon I'll go for this one & use my F70 main lens to cover the rear and secondary lens to cover the driver's side.

Thanks for the suggestion. I think I'm going to be getting the F70 and set it up like how you said.

How are the mounts? Would the main camera bit mount on the black parts of the rear glass of the mk2 punto so that only the camera would be sticking out?

And you can always just use front cam only if it arrives and you don't want to use the rear cam.

Been reading back a few pages again and you guys were saying that it was ridiculous during the night. How bad is it?

Because I was thinking that if it's that bad then might as well just get a G1W as that video that someone posted up looks alright to me.

Hmm.I could hardly see number plates.. Isn't that important? Or is it not as important as I think it is?

You're not going to make out a number plate even in the day on the majority of dash cams with driving like that.

And like you've said, its not as important as you think. That Audi driver still got convicted by the police with that video footage!

Oh wow. Alright. It's definitely the F70 for me then if that's the case. Thanks a lot you guys. :)

One of my old cams is a DOD, it was billed as a dashcam but originally produced as a pocket camcorder. It utilises a battery similar to a mobile phone. I used to get around 2hrs usage on battery power alone.
Most cams these days seem to use either capacitors - which store enough power to keep things going a short while to finalise that last file OR batteries which allow, in some cases, up to 5 minutes shutdown after power disconnects (although I have yet to find one that lasts longer than a minute or so!).
