cheap dash cam?

cheap dash cam?

Techmoan's reviewed a new action cam. sub $100 (around £60) and he's really drooling over the quality of video.

Camera seems a bit chunky & would be better with a black case - but not insurmountable.
If |I hadn't wasted my money on the DR32 I'd seriously consider this one.
The best action camera under $100. The SJ1000 budget 1080p multi-purpose waterproof action cam. - YouTube

Just found out (on dashcam forum) the dimensions ar 66*43*27mm.
27mm thick - and that's with a high capacity battery
The DR32 is thicker than that
Noticed these are on ebay for £69 (from UK) or £59 from China. Probably worth the extra to get it sooner & less worry if it has to go back.
And they do come in a choice of colours (y)

Soooo tempted.

I've got the F70 dual cam in my car. It's screwed & glued to the underside of the parcel shelf (doblos have a shelf above the windscreen) on the passenger side of the mirror - so it's mounted as high up as possible, with the unit tilted to get the lens as close to the screen as possible.
I got a dr32 with a suction mount to use at work (don't always get the same bus so has to be swappable). Chopped the mount as far back as I could. Suction to the sunshade ? (the black dimpled bit behind the mirror) on the driver's side & really tight to the side of the mirror. having the mount chopped means the cam actually doesn't drop down lower than the mirror. The screen is set ot auto off so as not to be distracting.

The mobius action cam went on sale today
http://www.spytecinc.com/mobius-1080p-hd-action-camera.html

And even better news - there's an app for android tabs & phones.

The mobius has had excellent reviews so would make a great dashcam - especially given its size - easy to hide right at the top of the screen.
I'm thinking I can run an extension lead with USB out to power front & back
Should be a great system - having two excellent cams covering the car, each having their own power & card.
Setting up should be a breeze - point the cams by viewing through the app.

Might wait a while first - allow the bugs to be shaken out (it's been around a while in beta testing but it can't hurt to hang on - given my experience of the oh so wonderful DR32!)

My bad. I guess I didn't C&P the whole url.
Fixed it now though.

Looking at the site, the seller doesn't seem to include much in the way of brackets - he lists these as optional extras (but then doesn't list them under accessories)
May be best to wait a while for the resellers to start doing deals?

Seller has just released a yt vid from the mobius cam. Set to full screen and 1080p, the clarity is pretty amazing. I reckon this would be even better over here with our larger (easier to read?) number plates.

and

They could've changed the date ? :D

On sale in the UK for £57.55 inc RM shipping at http://joovuu.com/store/index.php?id_product=14&controller=product

If I buy one, I will not only consider its price, but also other factors such as its quality.

According to early write ups, it's a real winner. I'm guessing they've sacrificed bells and whistles in order to keep the price down?
Also, bear in mind it's come out of the stable that gave us all the 808 keyfob cams & the DR32 - it's got a pretty impressive pedigree.
I know I moan about my DR32 but it seems that mine was one of a small batch of faulty units shipped worldwide, people have said the new ones coming through are perfect!

does that price include the car mount (£4.25)?:)

According to the link
What you get:

- 1 Mobius Action Camera
- 1 Tripod mount attachment
- 1 USB transfer/charging lead

So no. But then again, sacrificing bells and whistles to keep the price down?
I've had cams that come with loads of ways of mounting & I guess that's why the cams are crap?
I'm not bothered by the lack of suction cup/ 3m mount as I've got a few bits & bobs laying around.
In any case, I'd really want something with the lowest profile possible - get the cam as high in the screen as I can - always best to have the lens pointing down as much as possible.

Bought this one:

How do I change the language?!

EDIT: Never mind, found it.

Dom

Format the card in the device & test drive it straight away.
Some of these units have major problems with high class cards & many high class cards can't cope with the multiple file writing.
Mine seems happy with a class 6 32GB card.

What you don't want is some muppet doing something stupid & you thinking it'll be OK as the camera will have caught everything, only to find corrupted files or dropped frames etc. (and sods law dictates that the ONLY dropped / corrupt files will be THE most important ones :D)

Video & sound look good (quite respectable for such a cheapo cam). Hope you let it record quite a few files.

BTW, if anyone's interested in the mobius, keep an eye on Techmoan's youtube channel - they've sent him one for testing.(y)

well lets say ive never brought a dash cam in my life, so if i decide to invest in one, which i intend to cause after my first incident a few weeks back that got resolved in the most easiest way possible:) but doesnt mean to say everyone will be like that so a dash cam for me is a big must!!! so i want a cam that comes with a good enough mount that i can stick the cam to windscreen and be done with it:)
