Hi, my Diesal Panda Dynamic boot won't open. previous owner had the handle electronic release switch on the outside. said 'expensive and difficult to fix'. Just checking if new boot door handle comes equiped to work of the fob and handle plus key. ie all in one.
would be interested in sound second hand parts and where to get it as well.
I'm into london for a few days then up to skipton n. yorkshire.:bang::worship::)
 
The boot handle failure seems to be pretty common. Mine was replaced under warranty.
 
Strangely I was looking yesterday at how to remove the boot handle, I'm sure it's prob in my Haynes manual, but I'm guessing you have to remove the fabric boot cover and there are some securing bolts behind there?

Anyone know how much is a basic boot handle?

Basic, or one with a switch, as they are different ;)
 
Mine has failed twice on my 2005 MJ. On both occasions, I have removed the whole thing and given the handle and microswitch area a good clean. The microswitch only moves about 2mm and is released by a curved part of the plastic handle. All one piece as far as I can tell, including the number plate lamps.

Sorry to resurrect an old post Jon Most Easterly Pandas , but......

I have acquired a Panda which the boot lock isn't working on. The electric release doesn't work at all. Opens with the remote only, not the handle. Is it a replacement handle I need, and can any idiot fit it (i.e. me!)? :eek:

This is not the red 4x4 which has a fully working handle, but no remote!! :bang:

If it pops open with the release button on the remote then it'll more than likely be the handle.

Should be something even you can do Gavin. Remove tailgate inner cover and its then 4 (or 6, can't remember the exact number) 10mm bolts to release the handle and allow it to be pulled off of the tailgate for replacement :)

If you are good at improvisation, you might even be able to source a suitable microswitch and repair it.

Start by looking in the RS components catalogue, there are almost 2000 microswitches in there!

There might even be a manufacturers part number on the microswitch for you to google. The internet has made it much easier to find individual parts to repair stuff that is usually only sold as a complete assembly.

I was going to take a pic of Dez all covered in snow this morning but husband had my car cleared before I even noticed. Lol
 
Well you live and learn!! We've always unlocked the tailgate on my daughter's Panada using the 3rd button on the remote. I think when we first got the car we did have a look at the tailgate to see if there was a handle / lock arrangement for opening it without using the remote but didn't find anything that looked like it performed the unlocking function. There is a 'shallowly recessed handle like thing' between the number plate lights, but I think we expected it to depress quite a long way (like a normal door handle might) and it doesn't - so we assumed it had no function other than something to hold onto when lifting up the tailgate.

Seeing this thread made me think - as we clearly have the tailgate handle with electric unlock, where is and/or why is the handle not working. So I went out yesterday and had a closer inspection. Played about with the little handle thingy between the number plate lights and after fiddling the tailgate unlocked! It seems however that there is a certain knack to it...you have to push the handle on the horizontal plane away from you (i.e. towards the front of the car) and then pull it back towards you - again on the horizontal plane. Trying to depress the handle in the vertical plane does nothing. Simply pulling the handle towards you on the horizontal plane alone does nothing - it needs the 'push forward followed by the pull back' technique to work. I guess, given there is a micro switch underneath it you will never see any great amount of movement of the handle in any direction, and that must have been what was fooling us into thinking it did nothing.

I wonder, given the technique I've outlined to get our tailgate handle to work, if this is the same for other people's Pandas. If it is, then its quite possible that people may be under the impression that their microswitch has failed when maybe it hasn't. I'd therefore recommend trying to move the handle around in a more 'horizontal plane way' than just trying to depress it as per more normal car tailgate handles!
