Hello everyone,

Someone tried to steal my 2006 Panda 1.2 petrol and tore away the igmition lock and tried to start the car. They could not get it going but caused a bit of damage to the ignition asssembly

The lock section and the actual switch seem to be ok, but the centre plastic assembly that houses the steering lock is shattered. The car starts by turning the ignition switch with a pliers while holding the key to the transponder. An image is below.

Would anyone know a part number for this assembly. If its possible to keep the existing barrrel and old key, and just replace the plastic middle section, it would make everything so much easier

They broke in via the passenger rear quarter panel glass- am finding it difficult to find one - any ideas or suppliers gratefully received

Thank you

The mechanism is only available as a whole I believe, and is unique to the panda/ Ypsilon

Fiat Panda Ypsilon ignition switch 46845361

It's uses single use bolts so will need to be drilled out

The bolts are 7737899

If you are changing the complete lock assembly what I usually do is lower and pull towards me the steering assembly then lock it into place with it's lever, move all loose stuff to get best access to the "snap off" one time security bolts, then with a good sharp small chisel mark a deep groove into the remains of the snap off bolt at 90 degrees, then angle the chisel to gently drive the bolt around to slacken it off, do the same to both, usually you find that once one is turning it takes the tension off the other and they soon come undone.
Generally they are not very tight as the snap off action happens quite early in the tightening of the new bolts.
I would say put the grove from the chisel into both before trying to turn them as it makes life easier, I also have a good sharp centre punch to continue the turning and also a surgical pair of locking scissors which have proved invaluable in the past.
In the old days any locking bolts were easy to access, but now they tuck them up high where nearly impossible to get a drill to, hence my method, which incidentally has only been done with the approval of the owners.;););)

Thank you everyone for helping me.

Steering lock finally arrived and installed fine. Window was replaced wih a second hand one from Italy. I wish the little thugs that smashed it up were made to pay!

There is the dreaded power steeRing red light on now though. It had this error in the past which usually cleared with battery charge or long drive. But its not going away now even with battery fully charged and all power contacts cleaned.

When the engine is started there is no red steering warning, but it comes on as soon as the wheel is turned. There is no obvious sympthoms and the car seems to drive perfectly. The city drive button works too -Just the red warning light comes on and goes off in random patterns

On a cheap reader no error codes are stored, I will try a better one tomorrow.

Any ideas please?

Thank you

Sorry - yes the steering wheel.

I will try later at raised revs and reply - thank you.

Yesterday had a different code reader connected and still did not show any codes

A generic engine code code reader will not connect to the electric power steering module

There's quite a few option

Muiltecuscan, alfaobd, wow, Delphi

Quit a few tablet type scanners also work

Some elm327 dongles can be made to work with multiecuscan free(PC) or alfaobd free(android)

Either by soldering a jumper between some of the pins or using an adapter cable

Not all elm327 work you can't tell by looking at them elm327 identifer free on Google play will test a Bluetooth one. About 2/3rd of the china clone ones on AliExpress/eBay/Amazon will only partly work
