Hi, someone has tried to nick my 09 1.2 Panda, and in the process they have broken off the ignition barrel. I'm trying to figure out my options, so I'm looking in to how I could fix it myself.

The car has remote locking and I'd like to keep it that way if at all possible. I've done a bit of reading and have come up with this, am I on the right track?

- Buy a second hand igntion barrel with matching remote key
- Dissasemble both remote keys, and swap the blade from the new key in to the body of my current key
- Fit the new ignition barrel to the steering column

Am I right in saying this would work for both the ignition and the remote locking? Supposedly the immobiliser transponder is part of the PCB in the remote keys, so to me that suggests it should work.

Obviously I'd have to keep an old to work in the door locks, I'm fine with that.

ta, Alex

Should work.
Why not get the full set of locks? They're pretty easy to change over.
If you do, don't forget the airbag switch barrel - especially if your tailgate lock barrel is a bit ropey. Another easy swap, use the old corroded tailgate one in the airbag switch (after freeing it off a bit)

I doubt you will find a barrel and key secondhand

Most breaker sell them as a complete set

ECU
Body computer
Lock set
Dash
Keys

Selling the keys and ignition barrel means they are left with a useless ECU and body computer

A new lock set is a about £15-25
You would still need to get a new blade cut for the old remote by a lock smith

Are you sure the bit the barrel sits in isn't also damaged, the last one that was attempted theft was
