Are modern cars too good?

Well I'm prepared to say I nearly put my Prius into a field last night

Awful weather, and yes in hindsight not driving quiet to the conditions, however I was on my own and in the middle of nowhere, perhaps wouldn't have been driving in the same manner if I'd got passengers, or there were others about.

Traction control kicked in and luckily I didn't end up in said field. Am I an expert driver? No. Who is? We all make the odd incorrect judgement call, and mine was misinterpreting a country road bend. Even the best of drivers make incorrect judgement calls and have accidents.

I was glad of my driver aids last night - and don't think I'd have been driving any differently if they had or hadn't been fitted, however they saved me an insurance claim, and potential injury!

Love them or loath them, driver aids are here to stay, and as a whole are very beneficial imo.

And I know you all like videos..... (Keep music low, my poor choice comes through very loudly!)

Fahk me...

Now if you didn't have eco tyres and half a hundred weight of batteries...

Those conditions look pretty terrible. Very glad to see it didn't end in a field. Hurrah for stability programs

They weren't the best. Its the B1116 towards Harleston. A road I've used half a dozen times, normally in the dry and daylight however. How damp conditions can make a difference. Not sure if there may have been other contaminants on the road which contributed, although regardless, its only myself to blame.

Interestingly, it looks to be a regular thing on that bend, the verge looks like it has a car sized hole in it at the point I'd have gone through if speeds had been higher or no driver aids intervention.

If I was to be uncharitable I could say things like the leaves on the road in the early part of the video suggested the surface would be a bit slick, the wipers suggested more of the same, the standard fit eco tyres mean you had no business attacking a road at that speed in those conditions and you appear to have totally missed the left turn coming up sign. However we've all done it..and the main thing is it didn't end with a ditch and a tow truck.

Also I don't know if you are a religious man but if you are thank the deity of your choice no one was coming the other way.

It was an open road, I could clearly see no one was coming, as I'd already mentioned I was driving differently to how I would have been if I had passengers or there were others about.

No leaves where it happened either - lecture wasn't really needed tbh. I've already held my hands up to all the points you've mentioned

I still get people think that telling me that I was being stupid in the grinding video I made changing my exhaust where the pipe pinched the grinding disc, when the point in posting the video was to show people I was being stupid and got lucky. They also know far more than me about what happened, telling me i used the wrong angle, too much pressure, one hand etc etc, yet I was there and I know exactly what I did and didn't do and 99% of the time they get it wrong

I may have had a few ciders yesterday evening...on a re-read rather ****ty post on my behalf. Unfortunately missed the editing dead line so it's staying but yeah get your point MEP.

Good god, finally nice to see someone who didn't escalate things and put their hands up on this forum. Kudos to you good sir. (y)

Getting back to MEP's video.
First of all full marks from me for owning up to it. respect due for that.
We have had a lot of dry weather up here for ages, and it only broke in the last day or so.
I don't know if you had the same down there? If so, roads are often very greasy when the first rain comes down after a dry spell.
Is it my imagination or did you pull over to the right before the bend (the advanced driver's line, to help straighten the apex and improve visibility round the bend?
Maybe a touch of handbrake would have sorted it! (only half joking).

I did, its a nice open road so you can see if any other cars are coming. This was probably my first mistake, if I'd just driven the road as normal I wouldn't have attempted to take the corner at the speed I did. It's defo got a pitch / gradient issue on the bend, which you can't really see before you're on it and its too late.

Don't tempt me, its got one of these god awful foot operated things. I think it's only fitted as a legal requirement. I never use it as the car is always in Park when stationary :p
