April fuel duty rise to add £210 a year to petrol bills

A colleague was just saying today that he's just had a delivery of heating oil and it was more than double what he paid when he moved in a couple of years ago.
As for alternative transport, I'd have to walk half a mile after catching 2 buses & after being knocked off my bike a couple of times I can just about walk 50 yards.

Sold the second boring commuter eurobox some time ago. Bought a TVR S3 and a bike.

I now cycle to work. Five and half miles and 30 mins later and I'm there.

Costs me nowt to get to work thereby leaving plenty of cash spare to enjoy the S3 at the weekend.

Reckon I've got it sussed.:yum:

was watching a program on sky3 called london ambulance, it said "at least 1 cyclist is killed in London everyday", probably not much safer in other towns and cities, government don't tell you this when they say cycle to work to save on fuel

I drive 30 Miles (15 each way) just to get to work each day. I then travel around for work. My monthly fuel bill can range from £200 - £400ish, it all depends on the distance of jobs and how often i go out in the car in general.

We are currently waiting on the demise of the Transport companies. Its going to keep us very busy as they cant afford to fuel their vehicles and customers dont want the costs!

Yes but they are Londoners so they don't count .

Actaully I'm not surprised the way they ride - they are nutters. I am lucky that I don't have to go on the roads too much, if I did it would be 9 miles to work. When I do I find the motorists up here are on the whole quite courteous and patient.

THe cyclists that are killed typically are looking for trouble. Not helmets, lights to be seen or for that matter any road sense. I always say to myself if I see a cyclist disobeying the rules I'd point him/her out to a disgruntled motorist in a way saying, "there's your target kill 'im!"

Mind you I still find the occasional nutty morotist like the white van that stopped in the red junction box for bikes or the bmw loon who overtook me at high speed just to stop at a red light a few yards in front (it was a two lane road, I was in the right signalling to turn right). The former I stopped in front of the box and him, which he didn't like. I pedalled slowly down the hill leaving him stuck for a while (it was long and narrow). The latter was one of those rich neds texting on his phone, git then stays at my side for a while expecting me to look at him, too bad.

You forgot depreciation and maintenance.

Depreciation is meaning less if im keeping the car
Maintenance works out at £1.27 a day or £461.73 a year (avg so far) still cheeper than public transport
