They were in Evo this month too, along with a few threads about them on Detailing World. I'm moving this to the Leisure Lounge though, it's not a model specific thread.

I tend to find not driving into kerbs tends to help with regards to not kerbing rims. I know that seems a bit flippant and obvious, but I prefer just not to drive into kerbs to having to put some silly protector on my rims which will probably actually scratch the rims themselves and also trap crap.

I quite like being able to drive up kerbs at the moment with my steelies on but I won't miss it that much!

:rolleyes: Sometimes scratching the wheels is unavoidable, round by me there are kerbs that are a mile high and you either risk getting your wing mirror smashed off parking further into the road or risk kerbing the wheels getting close to the pavement. I know which I'd rather do.

It's all very well saying you don't drive into kerbs and so on but we're all human and nobody is perfect.

My 16" multispokes are scuffed on the "spokes" as this protrudes out further than the rim, 1 mistake :bang: and I feel like crying every time I look at the off side rear alloy.
This product would make no difference to me.
 
I use tyres with a Rim Protection Bead. Far more aesthetically pleasing and since my alloys are virtually flawless, I can assume the RPB is effective too.

It does make sense to use them where you have skinny tyres on an alloy though. My girlfriend has 165/70 R14 on 14X6" rims, and the alloy protrudes more than the tyre, and so is scuffed terribly. However, instead of some bit of plastic, next time she is due four tyres, I shall be recommending she has 185/60 R14 with RPB instead.
 
There is a good review on these in Auto Express - seems a bit of a pain to install, but look good once installed.

I park in some very big car parks and I look at the cars as I walk past - this product would be helpful for most people with alloys - as most of them seem to have scuffs.

None for me so far, theonly time I had hit the alloy was when I had go next to the kerb to a large and speeding lorry. Sometimes it can not be helped - in most cases, i am sure a little extra care can stop the kerbing.

165's on a 6" wide rim is a bit strange. My steelies are 5.5" wide and have 175's and they're wide enough to protect the wheel covers a little. 165's on 6" wide rims is just a little silly IMHO.

I get the impression that the previous owner cheaped-out when given the choices of 165/70 or 185/60, they chose the cheaper, taller profile.

RPBs are not completely infalible, I do have the odd scuff. However, I was most impressed that once, when I seriously screwed up a kerb mount, I damaged the tyre sidewall, but there wasn't a mark on the rim. Shame that the damn tyre was only 2 weeks old.

Sorry to see the kerbed wheel :( The 16" multispokes on my 500 are vulnerable to kerbing but I'm just very careful around kerbs and after just under 10k miles the only mark on them is a scratch that I put on them when I took them off to put the winter steelies on.
