I cannot help but think how the youtube vid is a setup. I wonder if that wheel is actually on a car or is the guy gently pushing it along?
And you'll also note how low that kerb is, barely higher than the depth of the tyre, compare that to an average street kerb.
Let's be honest here, most people, when they kerb a wheel do so with a bit of force - I doubt that tiny plastic bead will make any real difference
I use tyres with a Rim Protection Bead. Far more aesthetically pleasing and since my alloys are virtually flawless, I can assume the RPB is effective too.
at 1:14, 15 & 16, there is a hint of something behind the wheel but to me, it looks far too small to be the disk.
At 1:39 they show a scuffed wheel - with a disc and caliper behind it and also at the end - 2:06 - you can see the wheel with caliper & disc (but not being kerbed). You can also see a disc at 19secs but it seems to me that they have been extremely careful about getting the exact shot for their needs - they could have brought the camera back slightly to show some of the car, even shot from a tighter angle (putting the camera back and almost touching the car so you could see car and kerb?) but no, the angle of the shot and closeness of the camera has been worked out to perfection.
If that were my product and it really worked, I would show it on a car that was being deliberately kerbed & ground along the kerb. I would show a car being driven & bring the camera close to the kerb to show the tyre is actually touching and rubbing against the kerb.
Well having had them sit in the shed for almost a year when taking my winter wheels off and putting the alloys back on I decided to finally fit the alloy gators. Took about 45-50 min for all 4 wheel. This I done on Tuesday.
So, about 30min ago I was reversing along a curb (at a bit more than a crawl) and the inevitable happened. It was a bit curb and the noise was awful.
Let's just say, alloy wheel and alloy gator 1, curb nil. Yes the gator does look a little worse for wear now, but not a Mark on the alloy so I'd have said that's a success (and 3rd time in 2 years I've curbed an alloy).
Will post pics in a bit. For a big bit of curbing I'm very impressed and can't Reccomend them enough.
