GP 2010**

Fault logged:
EPS (Steering) - C1002-17 Steering column motor torque position sensors

but also:
ECM (Engine) - P6021-11 Alternator

Is my EPS issue possibly caused by a failing alternator / (or the usual weak battery / poor earth).

I don't want to throw money at it without doing some investigation.

All help would be appreciated.

Car has been with us for almost a year, it has the 1.4 8V engine which I did the timing belt on upon purchase.

No previous electrical issues, stop start has never been used on the vehicle (don't even know if it's spec'd).

EPS functions btw but there was an instance where I am informed the steering with went heavy/or the steering lock engaged (driver was not car savvy enough to know the difference, ignition cycle reset the EPS ECU and continued functioning).

Did some very aggressive steering lock to lock with the engine running and electrical loads on max.

The lowest measured drop was to 11.8V

Those error codes are intermittent and not permanent. Did you checked everything mentioned in diagnostic's window? I mean clearing codes & checking fuse, wires?
I know that older Punto models has general issue with power steerings (overheating or something like that...). Diagnostics says that "power steering must be replaced", but thats not true - it can be fixed at home. I don't know yet how exactly, but here in Slovak Punto forum is guy repairing these power steerings (he has a lot of work with that, he is traveling through Slovakia and repairing it , or sell repaired power steerings). I know that on YouTube is also some video how to bypass this issue by new wire directly from battery...but I didn't watch it because I have newer model 2013 (and this should be fixed by Fiat)
But 1st - if error codes are only intermittent, maybe there's a chance that power steering is not completely faulty

Seems like many forumers don't read the previous posts ...

DO THE EARTH STUFF FIRST, THEN THE POSITIVE LINE TO THE ALTERNATOR !

Then if your problem is not solved proceed with usual troubleshooting ...
