General 100Hp Top speed question ?

Ive had mine at an indicated speed of 122mph on an airfield. the car felt very stable, and ill be honest it felt better cruising at 100mph + then at 90 :S very strange.

Its either you being brave/fearless, or me being an old fart and a bit
more cautious, but am just not really happy with the directional stability
of the 100Hp in the upper reaches of 3 digit progression..

I dont know if its the fact that the car is on a short wheelbase, or the
electric steering and the fact that the car is a bit on the tall side.

Am finding it a bit stressful when pressing on, am having to grip the
steering wheel and really concentrating on keeping it going in a straight
line, it tends to weave from side to side, not a lot I will admit, but just enough to cause stress, which at lower speeds does not cause a problem.

In fact the car really is a great laugh, more so on the B roads which I am using more and more now.

Every car I have had is a new learning experience and all handle differently. Some are easy to cope with, and some are more demanding. At the end of the day its not quite as bad as my 1959 1300 Volkswagen beetle in a side wind. Will keep plodding away, might even add that bag of cement to the
boot... Cant but help to think that the damping springing set up is not as good as it could/should be. But thats another story.

If you think a 100hp feels a bit light at 100mph you want to try a mk1 mr2. That used to wander all over the place and though unnerving the trick is never to grip the steering wheel tightly because you'll lose feel. Just hold it loosely but so you aren't going to lose grip on it and you can feel what the car is doing. I must admit having cruised in my car at 110mh a number of times, it feels absolutely fine. Not as rock solid as my old BMW but then you wouldn't expect that.

I drive quick in the UK, but I go to Germany for my high speed thrills. I drive for a living, i need my licence.

Its not about no admiting it.

Had it up to 200km/h (125mph). Found it stable enough to take bends at 180km/h (~112mph).

My 100HP feels fine at up to indicated 110 - haven't pushed it beyond that for lack of opportunity - and would do indicated 100 all day. As TDQ says, just relax and enjoy it - my only reservation is that it seems very susceptible to the grooves that lorries put in the nearside lane on motorways/dual carriageways - the relatively light weight, relatively wide tyres and (presumably) camber angle on the front can make it twitch a little on these but it sorts itself out.

Satnav says 168km/h (105mph), was indicating 180+ at the time - the speedo overreads an awful lot!

Was on the flat on a dead quiet empty section of motorway (we've lots of those) at 6am on a bank holiday saturday morning and I didn't see another car for a good 15km or so. Our limit is 120, but the cops basically work 8 to 8 in the dry and warm only!

Satnav now has 175km/h (109mph) as max and I have NO recollection where I set it. UK M6 a few weeks ago I suspect!
