General 100hp mpg, boring i know!!

I am now considering a 100hp, this is covered but I need honest mpg for town driving, I do 20 miles a day upto 3rd gear max and loads of cold starts, short journeys, I would start the car and do 2 miles (10 mins) then stop for 30 mins and then same again.


what are your mpg in town?
im getting 220 miles out of my 1.2 and I need the 100hp to be on that level

I'm averaging about 37mpg since I've had my HP. That's 4000 miles of mixed driving, but mostly around town. When I'm out of town I like to make progress, but all within the law of course ;-)

How heavy is your right foot, and how much do you enjoy a nice engine note? Despite it having a tiny boot; suspension that will have your teeth rattling; low-ish MPG and only moderately good performance I love my HP to bits because of the smile it gives me every time I drive it :-D

Hard to know what you'd get. As I said, the 100hp is sporty, but when you're feeling lazy it'll pootle along in 6th at low revs.

Common sense would suggest you won't get as many mpg out of a 100HP than you'll get out of a 1.2, if used for the same pattern of journeys and if you use the extra performance of the bigger engine (and if you don't, then what's the point?)

I can't see how other folks mpg figures for the 100HP are going to help you much, given that your 1.2 is returning way below what the majority of us here are getting. Driving for 2 miles in traffic, then stopping for 30 mins and repeating the same pattern is going to absolutely hammer your mpg pretty much whatever you're driving.

That sort of usage profile is actually one for which an electric car would be ideally suited.

I get just over 35mpg on average (35.3, to be precise) according to the car's computer, not that that's a great deal of use to you.

100HP's really aren't good on fuel; a modern Fiesta ST, with twice the power, will get better MPG on average.

Well my average hardly ever goes below 40mpg.. in fact its currently sitting at about 42mpg after driving it with the air-con on for the last week or so and i don't hang about either..

My trip computer says 31.9mpg...in reality the figures are 10% worse than the computer says. Almost all stop start and town driving.

45 mpg max if I'm being very careful on the motorway on a stretch of 10 miles which is part of my daily commute.

my 1.2 8v gets 45 mpg trip says is 51mpg so is 10% out like stated so people saying there 100hp gives 31mpg is probably 28mpg if you see what i mean.
I get 310 - 330 miles from a tank ( full to light coming on) mines pretty much 30 miles motorway and 10 miles stop start every day ( more stop start on way home ) so you are getting a third less then me so expect 20mpg in a 100hp working on the same equation ref your current MPG.
only way to find out for sure is borrow one for a week and see how you get on - If you are thinking of buying a new one have a word with garage sometimes they will loan you one for extended test drive

But in fairness to the OP, there's no way I'd even get that doing 2 mile journeys in heavy town traffic.

Mind you, I also can't see the point of a 100hp for doing 2 mile journeys in heavy town traffic.

For a 2 mile journey in town, a bicycle would be the best option
Having said that, if the annual milage is so low, does the difference in cost actually matter?

I need the car, im an estate agent

My work is 600 metres from me and i go out 3 times a day on average on viewings....2 miles max

We have a boring family wagon and i wanted something that won be boring as my daily, on my day off ill still want to drive it.....sports car everyday etc.....

39.2mpg see attached; These are actual mpg figures which I run on a spreadsheet (which the forum does not allow me to upload). I always fill up to full, though how full depends on where the fuel pump nozzle cuts out. When done over multiple fill ups the figure becomes a real reflection of actual fuel consumption. The car computer is invariably 10% or more optimistic as they often are on most cars due to the microscopic amounts of fuel being measured and therefore an error builds up on the computed figure.
The journey I do is an 11 mile commute to work every day consisting of 1 mile farm track, 8 miles A77 and 2 miles urban.

Yeh I'm over 40mpg average... I've had 50/53 doing motorway driving along M8 Obv the more aggressive u are with that right foot the less you get.
