Seicento 1.4 Uno Turbo'd Seicento Rebuild Thread

Introduction

As a few of you may know, ive bought a nail of a car... I myself knew this, but i wanted to spend some time, money and effort to get it back in a show & stand worthy condition.

It was owned on here by 'wardy25' and as far as i can tell he spent a fortune on her... It was later sold, and then neglected... So far i understand that the car was left off the road for ages, owned by chavs, and thrashed, and thats only when its actually been running...

After it being sold on and on, i ended up snapping up the car...

The car has loads of problems, which i knew prior to me buying her, but she does come with loads of cool stuff...

The interior is full leather, its got powder coated abarth wheels, skirts spoiler, uprated brakes, and the main thing.... a tasty 1.4 uno turbo engine... which i think is the MK2 engine.

The car also comes with panels hanging off, cold start problems, faded paint, wiring faults, and more holes in the exhaust than swiss cheese....

So as a good thread goes.... here are a few pictures of the car in its current condition...

Hopefully in the near future, it wont look anything like it does today...
Ive been a bit quiet on here over the last day or so....

So far i have bought a new seicento gearbox mount, and packed it out with PU sealant (tigerseal) and left to dry for a few days... (as i will be fitting it tomorrow and then packing out the other mounts, leaving the car off the road for a few days for the mounts to cure...

I know a few people moan about using tigerseal, but it does the job and its cheaper than going solid mounts...

Ive also got the car running now, first time off the key... it runs lumpy till shes warm (about a min or two) but this is down to not having the supplementary air valve, which is basically the idle control/choke. It is open from cold letting air through into the TB, and when the engine warms up, a bi-metallic strip moves and closes the valve.. Ive managed to get one off a guy off here, so just awaiting that...

To sort the electrics i pulled out the complete dash... doing this revealed a million and one nightmares... All the soldered connections for things were left un insulated, connections were burned and wires going all over the place.

A few hours of cutting and resoldering later i had a much neater and safer wiring loom... The owners had wired the engine and ecu main feed off of the seicento's 3rd click on the ign barrel, so this was swapped over to the correct orange, as i know one is orange and white, and the other is orange... cant remember which.. With the ecu wired incorrectly the ignition barrel was drawing current though the wrong contactors and it was all a big scorched mess...

I also ended up changing the coolant temp sensor (the one for the ecu) and now the car seems to be great, just lacking the choke/ICV which is should be getting and fitting when it arrives. At least it starts first time, and no more sitting there trying to get her to start 7 turns of the key down the line.

I then relocated the gauges, not for style, just for the fact i couldnt see the damn things where they were... Im planning on getting new clocks and matching gauges in the near future so these are only temp at the min.

Dash is now back in, and the interior may be sold.... If the guy doesnt take the seats over the weenend then i will be keeping it all.. If not then i will be stripping the car and getting some cobra buckets (if they will fit)...

Tomorrow i will be sorting out the engine mounts, and swapping over the brake setup from my other fiat, as the brakes on the turbo are groved and drilled, but the ones on the 2.0 are groved, drilled and more inportantly vented and bigger!!

Heres some piccys...

On a quick one...

does anyone know how to make oil filled engine mounts more solid (was thinking of drilling with two holes, then filling with tiger seal?) If not then il just buy new...

And does anyone know what size buckets will fit the car,, as in say cobra clubman or monaco seats?

I dont mind making runners etc...

I like the olde Recaro fishnets (Strada Abarth, TC, etc). You can pick them up very cheap, but they always need recovering. A "proper" bucket is going to be a real PITA if you need rear seats. There's a nice task for your new sewing machine.

Lol we now have a 1.1 saxo in the family, so im alowed to play a little with the interior now... Although will be leaving the option to return to a 4-5 seater as i have a set of rear seats from my black one in storage lol

Cobra clubmans fit for deffo as i had them in my old Sei, emm with the turbo also had monacos so they fit fine too, i also had cobra daytona (i think that was the name) the same size as recaro honda type R seats. J333EVO has cobra frames for a sei for sale (y) would save you a lot of hassle (y)

Spot on info matey, cheers!

The Strada Abarth Recaro's are good, but hard to get now, i recently sold mine to a MK2 Golf owner, he loved them.

Yes I have a spare par of Cobra subframes, and do work in Coventry, and as I've just sold my GT4 being reduced to using the Seicento to work until I decide on the replacement daily driver :)

Lol id be worried if the chassis was damaged due to the engine mounts being more solid than standard.. With the UP it still has flex, it doesnt dry super solid, dries like a hard rubber.

Yeh. just a warning tho. fatuige starts to happen when you transmit to much vibration to the chassis.
I sikaflexed the two upper/side engine mounts and left the lower/rear one (one that seems to fail a lot) as standard.
This was recommended to me by "people in the know" and seems to work well (y)

A dude i used to work with was a mini nut, and his bro solid mounted his mini's subframe, ended up ripping two big holes in the floor = shell was a right off.

Ill be filling my mounts up because im sick of ripping through the rear mounts in well under a year:rolleyes:

thats exactly why you DONT do the rear! fill the two front mounts up as they mount onto tougher stuff then the rear and take less load.

by filling these you will take a lot of load of the rear mount while still allowing engine movement that will stop it killing the car and making it feel like your riding a road drill.(y)

my rear mount is a repaired one (rubber came away from the steel so i sikaflexed it back together)
Its lasted 2 years. loads of autotests(engine mount killer) and other rough events and months of turbo abuse! (y)

Hmm, i can see where you are coming from, but it leaves me still with the problem of the oil filled mount... dont really know what to do with it.. (uno turbo top mount)

Tand as I've just sold my GT4 being reduced to using the Seicento to work until I decide on the replacement daily driver :)

You've done what!!!

don't tell me the same sensible bug has got you too:( two cars for me doesn't feel right (but i am in negotiations on a 1986 911 turbo ) and the MX-5 is over 200bhp thanks to methanol

Nar i cant afford to, worst case il be listing her for sale at £2500. Loads less than i spent on the car, but im getting desperate lol....

The yellow one is taking its place. I know the turbo isn't as nice as the redtop sei, and hasnt had all my sweat and tears invested in it, but the money is in the black one... Plus i dont think anyone could bare to see the yellow one up for sale again haha.
