As the title says

from a previous thread where i asked about my car making a whining noise

turns out it is the fan (n) it makes a very very loud noise as if its struggling to turn but it moves freely if u push it by hand
i suspect bearings in the motor bcause there is a really loud screaching like metal on metal now (n)

gonna pick one up from a scrappy and see if it changes, and another thing is the car warms up very very quickly? any reason for this or is it just the car.

once warmed up it stays in the middle of the temp guage and doesnt move.... is that normal for punto's?

cheers

Do you rag your car before its warmed up ? I find if i belt it to the end of the road about 1 min later its fully warmed up. But if i drive normal it takes about 5mins for it to warm up.

nope
it wont rev over 2k if its cold and it dos be really chucky until fully warmed up

Have never known my fans to come on in anger but then both cars are diesel so not comparable (they do work though, as tested with ecu scan) on petrol cars quick warm up is pretty common but radiator fan on is not under the circumstances you describe,

Might be an early warning to invest in a new thermostat

Always warm a diesel slowly and NOT by idle. Just cruise it until the temp gauge starts to rise and without turbo if possible. Own a W plate JTD myself and the cooling fan has only come on once that I recall while sitting in a jam. Easy to check the fan from scrappy. Just touch its power leads to any old battery you find up there (not your own cars though) but mind your fingers!

Mine had the same problem - extremely noisy fan, that eventually stopped working because I assume the motor packed up. Replaced it with one I got off ebay and it was so quiet compared to the old one. Easy to replace too.

only if you get the same type otherwise the plastic locating lug on the slam panel doesnt lineup and they dont undo to move them because fiat in their wisdom used mild steel in a plastic casing in a hostile enviroment

only one in 8 undoes for me so i usually get them off with copious amounts of heatgun

had it in the garage getting t.belt and w.pump done and asked about the fan
it is a bearing in the motor so gonna look for a new fan now

also today the fan came on when i was driving and the temp guage was only at the 1/4 mark? thermostat issue?
