I have an aftermarket HU in my 07 Active and currently it plays through the 4 original speakers.

Here is what I'm interested in doing:
- Replacing all four speakers with aftermarket ones
- Adding tweeters to all 4 doors
- Soundproofing/deading the entire car

Can someone tell me what I'd need for this in terms of connections? Two 4-channel amplifiers? How do the amplifiers connect to the car battery usually? Will I also need to buy filters/crossovers?

Finally, with the tweeters taking care of high frequencies, is it even a good idea to have the main speakers sharing mid and bass ranges... or should I do a different setup?

If you get speakers with separate crossover boxes you would normally run each mid and tweeter off a single channel so a 4 channel amp would to the whole lot.

You'd only run a tweeter off a separate channel to the mid if you were running an active setup.

The mids would have to handle mid range and bass duties unless you were also going to install a sub.

Battery connection wise you would run a power cable from the battery to wherever you have the amp installed. This should have a fuse installed as close to the battery as possible to protect against shorts. The earth lead from the amp to earth should also be as short as possible. A remote cable should be run from the head unit to the amp to deal with switching power to the amp on and off.

hi, having a leak - and damp deadening under the front carpets.. I can assure you there is quite a lot there..,

deadening around the rear/ hatch is probably the biggest gain,
look at posts by Demi, as he posted pics of his HP stripped out around 5 weeks ago in panda section,

Hi there,

If u buy component speakers u ll need tweeters too, both wire through crossover boxes.

If you buy coaxial speakers they have build in tweeters.

I sound proofed my whole 100hp and a mean WHOLE! :D

Boot is done the same anal way as the rest but I didnt take pictures, my bad.

reduced by 10-12 dB from stock but we used iPhone app to measure that. Doesnt seems enough but when u r in my car now, while doing 60-70mph u can whisper. U feel big difference, my voice cords are at rest on motorways :D

easy enough job just very time consuming took me days... not hours.

One piece of advice is - take EXTRA care with all plastic trim!!! It is soo fragile! if not sure about removing some trims, PM me.

If I was u, i'd do doors, roof and boot (rear wheel arches). there isnt much noise coming through the floor and the carpet is like 40mm thick in foot wells.

Yes Demi! That's what I like to see!

Biggest noise reduction I got was from fitting a Dynamat Hoodliner to the bonnet, Dynaliner on the doors and roof also made quite a difference over Dynamat alone.

Dynamat in the doors improves the standard kit by an almost unbelievable amount and is well worth doing for the cost.

Thanks for your replies folks.

Paulbfd, that's quite an extravagant subwoofer job you've got there, but does it not sound as if the bass is offset to the left? I see people put subwoofers in their boots too, but I need my boot space and surely that's not an ideal place to project the sound into?

Looking about the cabin, I'd have thought a good position would be here:

it's low, in the centre and discreet so you don't notice the speaker.

Demi, since you've done a cracking job at soundproofing a panda, would you be interested in earning some money... lol

Bass below roughly 100hz is not directional so position of the sub doesn't matter too much as your ears won't really be able to tell where the sound is coming from.

It must be like an anechoic chamber in there. Either that or a padded cell. :)
