Regular readers may remember my earlier thread about the me being too optimistic about the fuel consumption I could expect from our new MJ.
I was thoroughly disheartened as it only managed 52-53mpg tank to tank no matter how carefully we treat it.

First service at 12,000 miles came and went with no effect at all, so I just resigned myself to the fact the mpg would never be as good as out ancient Pug 106. Plus the engine sounded like a bag of nails at low revs.

Can anyone explain this................
The last three tankfuls have averaged above 67mpg, the final one yesterday almost a magical 70 (69.8). Not a steady improvement - just a quantum leap in economy all of a sudden.
Nothing has changed - same drivers, same routes, same driving style and it still sounds like a bag of nails at low revs

15,150 miles on the clock now, and I'm keeping all fingers and toes crossed
:worship: I'm worried now in case it goes back to 'normal'!

Well there is no explaining that.

Different dismal you are using perhaps?

Mine does a solid 56 mpg average and i have my foot to the floor a fair bit.

Are you labouring the engine? Its better to rev it a bit i think.

Same diesel -Jet
Rural roads, mainly round trips of 8-16 miles, very little town use or dual carriageway, no motorways. Never laboured, but not very often flat to the floor. I'd just got used to it doing low 50's mpg.

Same as the last year, actually....

Maybe it saw how dear diesel has got and decided to behave better in case you thought about not taking it out to save fuel... Lol
