General Starting to panic now!

1. Fiats do not have common mechanical problems. yes some of the cars can have problems but so can any make of car. The engines the 500 uses are tried and tested and prooven to be reliable. They are all based on the FIRE family which fiat has been using since the late 80s! They are very reliable engines! Obviously with all engines, you need to look after them if you want them to reliable so its advised to stick with the servicing schedual.

2. Fiats CAN have electrical problems but its the same with all cars. No car is perfect as they are designed and made by humans. The odd car here and there might have a problem but certinatly not all of them will have problems. Its true that italian cars have a sterotype of having electrical problems but I think you will find that this is more commonly found on Alfas, not fiats.

The people in this country really need to realise that Fiat isnt the same company it used to be in the early nineties. And even then, the cars were nowhere near as bad as people made out. There are still plenty of late 80s, early ninties fiats around on the road and in good condition too! If they have been looked after then theres no reason to doubt it being a good car.

Well said... just to inspire you further, I run a 1992 Panda everyday, it has nearly 70,000 on it now and has covered over 25,000 in 2 years and 3 months. Never broken down and only problems apart from wear and tear items have been earthing faults caused buy corroded terminals... in their defence the weather has been pretty wet for some time:)

My best mates fleet of older VWs has been far less impressive. In fact, because of our VW I have recently taken out RAC cover, something Ive never had in 11 years of Fiat ownership:)

On the whole, the Polish made Fiats have been better made and built than their Italian cousins IMHO. Ive had 6 Polish Fiats btw.

£4000 for your passion is not bad, although you didnt say what milage you had.
My wife got £3450 for a 4 yr old Pure with approx 16K on the clock against a new Pulse.

However I would say that I put her car on autotrader and could have got the asking price of £4200, as we had 1 call per day asking once it hit the paper.

Dont Panic !!! If you want better money to go against new car, attempt private sale 1st.

I will be selling my car private and use the cash to my new 500.

We ended up getting £4250 for it part ex which was a great deal it has got 7600 miles on it i know it's not many but I will use the 500 to go and play football twice a week so it will get more use, I have not felt this excited about Linda getting a new car before, i can't wait, we ordered it a week ago and haven't heard anything from the dealer but i suppose it's too early for them to know anything yet
