the engine may be hot , but you need to get the cat hot :)

What's the minimum run/rev/whatever required for that?

'course it's all academic at the moment as both projects are on hold until Spring minimum thanks to a lack of funds :(

just skipped back a few goes.

your engine oil temperature was a meager 65 degreese...... your engine wasnt even warmed up?

the oil always runs slightly (around 10-20 degree) higher than the water temp(As it hasnt got a radiator). your fan comes on at 95water temp. if that was happening the oil should be near 100......

im worried it just wasnt hot enough.

ive checked my seicento just, and the rpm only drops off of choke at 60 degrese water temp. i havent a oil temperature checker but it is always higher than water. sounds like you were still on choke?

high co readings are definitive with too much fuel or too little air in the mix.

if you have a spare throttle swap it back to see how it runs? also if you keep the battery off it forgets most settings it can 'learn' according to fiat it needs up to 500 miles to perfect these and this could also help in fine tune the engine.

how are the spark plugs? color wise aswell, will give a great idea on over/under fueling straight away

500 miles? Jesus christ we're never going to manage that with the car off the road. I'm guessing every time the battery goes flat it loses the settings too.

Well that's depressed me further :(

Yep a was at a fiat idea yesterday 1.4 petrol and it was hunting at idle after code reading it says throttle valve not learned basic values due to low ecu voltage car had been stood for 2 weeks with flat battery charged battery up depress throttle pedal with ignition on for 30 sec released pedal for 30 secs with ignition on then switch ignition of for 1 min started car up and ran sweet as a nut my point is the ecu needs time to learn

Gonna leave it to the experts to debate this as you all know how great my mechanical knowledge is

But cheers Mr Shaw as that sounds a lot better than running for 500 miles. So priority when we eventually return to the shed is new(er) battery, try the above trick to see if it solves the hunting issue, try and work out why the oil is only sitting at 65°C, swap throttle body etc.

Fun and games

What good is changing the throttle body back yet again going to do? It has already "passed" on CO levels on THIS throttle body before, first time through emissions it only failed on the lambda. The second emissions test it appears there was a temperature issue (and) or an exhaust leak (which could have worsened since last test for all we know) and contributed to the emissions change on it suddenly failing on co levels too. But it's most likely it needs to be hotter.

It's worth trying, but the hunting issue will not be sorted by that IMO, it idles absolutely fine until it hits temperature, it's a temperature triggered issue. we KNOW there has been an issue with the crank sensor wiring, so that should be checked. We have cutting out after all, that's usually the first sign of a crank failing too, can also lead to heat related hunting.

In short, check the manifolds exhaust adapter..... swap crank sensors over, run it up to temperature and see if hunting comes in, we can take it from there once that is ruled in or out. all free tests considering the parts are already there....

just trying to help from a far, im unsure what you have and havent so just putting suggestions up there to try. if you have already had it ok on the new tb then not to worry.

do you have the print out for the other MOT, the first one? would be interesting to see the engine oil temp on it.

if it is still in choke then it will never pass CO as the fuel/air is highly angled towards fuel to warm it up.

that said, you mentioned it was hunting and the fan was on, so it would seem there is a possible temp miss reading,

how old are the plugs?

lastly, the only time ive experienced hunting idle with the seicento was a air leek around the throttle body, and a vac pipe had fell off.

oh, and i have a three pin ecu diagnostic cable here i could temporarily post up to you guys if you think it would be of any use.... ( i do not have a vagcom/kkl spare to go with it so you would need that to plug into it to then go into the pc. ((3pin->kkl/vagcom->usb/pc))

using this program apparently you can get engine temp and most other info the ecu has including codes.

most importantly you can see airflow/temp and also lambda reading so you can see how its adapting to whats going on. you can also see what changes when it starts hunting.....

Original MOT is on page 31, and oil temp was bypassed manually, but I know it was really hot, cos the poor thing as getting some stick from me in the carpark just before the test.

I'd just like to say thanks to everyone who are still offering ideas on how to solve the emissions problem and offering to send things to us to help. I certainly appreciate it even if we're not taking action on it yet. As I posted previously we're having a break from this partly because it's so ****ing depressing to solve one problem and then have another appear, partly because we need to amass funds again but also because the shed is not a pleasant environment to be in at the moment. It's cold and with all the recent rain is swimming in water which is no fun for those crawling underneath the cars.

So we'll make a decision soon as to what we're doing and of course this thread will be the first place where it'll be posted but in the mean time feel free to keep debating amongst yourself about how to solve the problem. Don't forget that whilst the project is funded by just a couple of us Yellow actually belongs to FS and the intention is still to use it to publicise the site whether road legal or as a track car

Ive got the 3 pin code reader aswell you can have if you want as I got it a while back but never used it youres if you want free of charge :)

The new battery for yellow is still safely tucked in my garage. let me know when you want it and i will top it up on the charger :)

Also sit the battery on a block of wood or rubber sitting on metal or the floor murderes them, ive wrote off a pair of bus batteries by doing that before!

There was a quick trip to the shed today to remove the alternator from FiaSco as it has potentially been sold to someone. Luckily it had already been removed however finding it was another matter. We're going to have to develop a better filing system for parts

As we were in the shed anyway it was only fair we start up Yellow to keep it going. It's just as well I'm not a gambling person because I would have put money on needing the jump leads to start it but Yellow surprised me and kicked into life at the second attempt. We let it run for a while and then took it for a quick run round the yard before stashing away in the shed again.

Also tested was the generator and I'd have put money on that starting as it's full of diesel. As said luckily I'm not a gambling person as the genny had been left with the ignition switched on and the battery was flat. I'll ask for it to be charged tomorrow and that should be that hopefully

Wish I knew you would be there, coulda came down past... did you find the alternator??

We were there for maybe 20 minutes only so hardly worth it. And yes we did eventually find the alternator on one of the shelves - the one that gets flooded every time it rains. Hope the damn thing still works...
