how can you wire them incorrectly, it just wont work if wired wrong

If you connect the wire from the RCL unit to the wrong wire on the harness, you could be putting +12v down a line that's not designed to take +12v and fry something, or put load across a component that's not designed to take load.

Remote locking not working

Hi can anyone help me I've fitted my remote locking kit today but its not working. When you press the lock or unlock button the kit makes a clicking noise like its trying to work but its actually not locking or unlocking the doors.

I connected the lock and unlock wires to the white/green cable and the blue cable.

I've included pictures of the wiring and the instruction manual.

Thanks

Re: Remote locking not working

Hi mate,

First of all check all your connections are good. Those scotch locks aren't the best at making reliable connections.

Secondly, the fact the unit is clicking suggests that your permanent 12v and ground are good, so you can ignore them.

There should be one or two other cables that you have connected to ground. The wiring diagram in your instruction manual doesn't quite make sense as it says the unlock wire is permanent ground (which it won't be) so looks like they have their labeles mixed up!

The yellow cable on the central locking output wires should be connected to ground. Also I RECON the yellow and black should also be connected to ground and the white and black would be the unlock?

Does that make sense?

Re: Remote locking not working

Infact I have looked further at the wiring diagram and you can quite clearly see they have ballsed up their lables!!

White should be lock
White/black unlock

Yellow connect to ground
Yellow and black connect to ground

Red connect to permanent +12v (already done)
Black connect to ground (already done)

i pointed how he should wire it in post 6

Re: Remote locking not working

Hi thanks for the reply I have already connected the yellow and yellow/black to ground because it was suggested before but its not working. For some reason I think that the lock and unlock wires (white and white/black) are connected to the wrong cable on the car.

What colour cable does it connect to on the car?

This was a separate thread, I've just merged them. So my posts were 2 and 3. In his OP ie 6 posts ago, he didn't mention connection the yellow and yellow and black.

But yes I see you advised him ithe same in the other thread (y)

Re: Remote locking not working

Hi,

No not necessarily. It would help as it would allow us to confirm which side of the system is causing the problem, ie the RCL kit not supplying a switched GND or the switched GND not going to the correct place.

Have you tried disconnecting the scotchlock on the white/green wire and checking that its had made a good connection? and then try locking again?

Re: Remote locking not working

Hi,

So its a good clean connection through both cables going into the scotchlock?

Have you also checked that your yellow and yellow and black wires are making a good GND connection? (this is where a multimeter would help) but as a temparary test you can connect them to the black wire by twisting all three together atht the end. That way if theres not a good earth, you wont get a click from the unit.

Hope this is making sense

Re: Remote locking not working

Okay...

so just to clarify

so the green and white LOCK wire should have the WHITE wire from the rcl kit attached to it.

The light blue and Purple UNLOCK wire should have the BLACK AND WHITE unlock wire from the RCL kit attached to it.

The yellow and yellow and black wires of the RCL should be connected to ground.

Can you remove the scotchlock on the lock wire, and then remove a small amount of the (Cars) wires insulation (only about 5mm on one side) to expose the copper inner core. Then with a spare piece of cable, attach one end to your ground point, and then touch the bare end onto the now exposed inner core of the lock wire. The central locking should then LOCK and will probably unlock as the door is open.
