Its an insane amount for any form of transport. It makes public transport now look attractive. A car is to get you from A to B and to allow you do collect people and shopping, and to get to work. The manufacturers and legislators that think we the masses should take out a mortgage to but one are **.... kinnuts. The whole mentality of buting car after car is a nonsense and responsible for a great deal of environmental dmage. Its also stressed people, done damage to mental health and strained many marriages as well The whole lot of the greedy ***s that have lead us all into this morass and who think they can now carry it on by trippling the price of transport and devaluing our existing cars heavily at the same time deserve quite literally to be lynched. We need to move about to live. Anone that thinks that we live to become financially enslaved to car makers is well short of a shilling.
Diesel has been broadly good for the environment compared to the alternatives and couldd be developed to be better. We do NOT need to change over night to electric battery powered cars. We need a balanced approach leaning to the highest possible efficiency and the least environmental damage, combined with vastly improved public transport and reduced use of personal transport. There is totally NOTHING being done towards these ends by our legislators and tehy need to get a grip, as tehy and not we can imfluence this in a sensible way.
Im in favour of lower speed limits, electric cars light weight vehicles with collision avoidance technology, but also continuing the use of ICE vehicles that meet emissions standards, and these could be tightened to rid the roads of gas guzzlers.
It seems that either we care, and will act accordingly, or not. It seems not. And this on top of the utter lunacy of the current price hikes. I dont think this is something the free market can resolve in the right time frame.

How about a 76 year old DeSoto or a 45 year old Honda CX500? Maybe not the DeSoto. That doesn't even have PCV.

Your getting there, they have given back for teh cost of the making! I think you m/c and bicycles qualify you for a green badge in themselves, but you will get a massive points deduction for the electric wheel chair you now need.
None of that electric wheel chair stuff for me. Self propelled knee scooter.

I used to have a 1964 chrome bumper MGB Roadster with Rostyle wheels and in Glacier white , as fellow B owners drew near they would wave gaily to a fellow owner, until that is they got close and realised what a wreck it was, then their hand wave would become more like they were shaking something off, I didn't care it only cost me £90, I had sworn I would never buy such an old women's car until I saw the price.Why not? If you can afford a top motor good luck to you but it certainly doesnt make you a more worthwhile or valuable human being, far from it. I had a 1964 Midget, grey with a red interior and knock off wheels. You could also watch the road go by beneath your feet and the passenger door came off with its hinges. Ironically the De Soto would be exempt as a classic car, and probably more appropriate to pull up outside the Ritz
I have stayed in a few posh London hotels, its really fun to do things like let yourself in the door when the Valet isn't looking, as they get Pissy, thats literally all they do, maybe flag you down a cab, but let yourself in and you're taking their only job away

Ultra low emission zone. Bit like los angeles where they hammer high polluting vehicles. Cities all over the UK are now charging for entering city centre in an effort to clean the air if you have an older car.

It has taken 54 years since I first stood in front of a lathe in the Wilmot high school Freshman shop class to get a lathe of my own. This followed me home today.
It's not pretty but it has been very well maintained.
